Gerrard should play on the right

That would answer a lot of our problems.
Play 4-4-2 with a midfield of Riera/Babel, Alonso, Mascher then Gerrard, Torres and Keane up top and actually start attacking teams.
Unfortunately he is still our best wide right and we have better options in the middle than we do out wide.
Start with that, put Arbeloa behind him to over lap and provide the width let Gerrard roam a little then when we get a lead revert to the 4-2-3-1 by pulling him inside to support the striker.
Maybe not the best idea for Chelsea but against everyone else at home and 90% of the away prem games this has to give us our best chance

it might partially solve a problem but it would only create bigger ones. you would never get gerard to stay out wide for 90 mins. he would keep coming central ( like benni ) leaving no width on the right hand side. alonso and mash don't have the engine, power or pace to play the attacking central role like gerard does. and gerard is mort effective and explosive in the middle of the pitch at the heart of the action. moiving him from there takes goals and assists out of his game and ultmately removes gerard from the game.
People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.

I agree totally and have been saying it to my mates for ages , without doubt he is the best option at the club at this present moment to play out there, yes he is a driving force from the center and he can possibly get isolated out there , but do we actually take away a goal threat by putting him on the right,A few seasons back i think he scored 23 goals from playing that exact position when rafa first came and I know he prefers the center but you have to make sacrifices for the sake of the team personally I would play Carra behind him at rb to give stevie more of a defensive cover as to when he does drift infield.also he is the best crosser at the club at the mo so until we sign a proper right sided player I would go for this in a 4-4-2 with keane and torres up front

      Reina
carra skrtyl Agger ?( until insua is back)
      SG Masher Alonso reira
      Keane Nando

its time we took a different approach and just go for it.
Its not 2 points for a win nowadays Rafa they changed it to 3 points years ago ffs

Really good point but it would leave Masch and Alonso exposed.

Gerrard is to much of a work horse to be stuck out on the right, just to accomodate Keane.

Have you seen him whip in those excellent crosses recently.

Play the world's best CM on the right? NO thanks. It may be an improvement on Kuyt, but it leaves us missing in the middle. Neither Xabi or Mash can do what Stevie does in the middle. In fact, nobody can. As said earlier, it solves one problem but leaves us with a bigger one. CM is by far a more important role than RM. Leave him where he is and where he loves to play.

              Agree completely

Also been saying it for quite some time, in fact I think I mentioned it in another post earlier today.

And the point about Gerrard not staying out wide I don’t think this would necessary be a problem. You could saying it would leave Arbeloa exposed down the right but that is where Mascha comes in. As the holding midfielder surely he is there to try and cut out things before they get to the defence.
Also Gerrard had his best (probably 2nd best) season out on the right.

              I’m all for it!

Iv said it plenty, until we buy a top quality right winger we should use him out there and put Keane up top with Torres

I think it makes the most sense as well, its not as if stevie has to stick religously to the byline is it, he can have freedom no problem, i see this as the most logical solution and enables to put our best 11 players out.

Theres not a snowballs chance in hell it will happen.

                    I agree. I don't like it mind.

Had Rafa bought a top RW we would not have been in the situation. But as we are it is the best course of acion. Not against Chelsea mind.

That one against Wigan where Torres hit the post even though it was a one off.

Gerrard on the right though would be a temporary fix. Ofcourse he offers more than Kuyt out there but he is to valuable in the middle.

Babel should have his chance on the right with Riera on the left. I know he isn't the best crosser of the ball but im sure he will feel slightly less awkward being required to get crosses in every now and again.

I know it's not ideal but I don't think I can face seeing Kuyt play wide for the rest of the season.
If you think about the amount of possession we have it is down to Mascher and Alonso who control the tempo, we break down when we try to create in the final third and as Gerrard plays mostly behind Torres in the 3 it wouldn't weaken the middle because you have the 2 holding in Alonso and mascher, hell play him and Babel wide and let them switch and roam like the mancs do with Ronaldo, Rooney, Nani or whoever plays wide for them

Dont forget the telepathic understanding that nando and stevie have when he plays and breaks from the middle. Shove him out on the right, and not only do you play the world's greatest central midfielder out of position, but you remove that link between him and his partner in crime. If rafa had a fully functioning set of balls he would drop kite and play babel in his place with albert on the left. Give babel time to settle and he would give twice the pace, skill and goal threat of deadly dirk.
