Arsenal still havent finalised a deal with Zenit.
Should we be in for him?
Sell Keane to Spurs, get Arshavin in and play him behind Torres, with Gerrard on the right.
Reina
Arebloa Carra Skrtel Aurelio
Mascherano Alonso
Gerrard Arshavin Riera
Torres
That would be a big improvement on our attacking threat, IMO.

Arshavin can play on the right to. But I can't see it happening.
Sky Bet have him at 1/8 to sign for Arsenal.
8.38 Sky Sports News' Bryan Swanson has the day's first news of Andrei Arshavin. He has been spotted in Hertfordshire close to Arsenal's London Colney training ground, fueling speculation he is closing in on a move to the Gunners. Sky Bet are pretty sure he will be an Arsenal player by the end of the day, rating him 1/8 to move to the Emirates.
I think it's looking a certainty really.

I cant see it happening either, but i wonder whether we should've made a move for him. He's the type of player who'd unlock teams that come to anfield with their 8-2-0 formation.
Perhaps, but then I'm not sure we'd have £12m unless we are offloading Keane. Which bearing mind will only happen today if at all, it was always going to be too late. Not sure whether Arshavin's wages may have proved a stumbling block anyway, although that was the rumour with Arsenal and they appear to have sorted that out.
It doesn't really matter though as we are getting Lennon anyway.

If Arsenal's 'tighter than a nun's you know what' wage structure can accomodate Arshavin, surely ours could! But yeah, the timing aspect was never gonna work.
What do you make of Lennon?
Argh I really can't decide on Lennon. On the one hand he causes defenders a lot of problems with his pace and his trickery, but his final ball is more often than not lacking. I wouldn't be dead against us getting him, because he really would inject some pace down that side, but I'm just not sure how good he really is, or really can be.

Heading to the airport I see due to the Gunners not stumping up the cash.

arshavin standard's are extremely high, i think.
Seems like he is very big headed and could cause trouble in the dressing room, he will be right at home at Arsenal with Gallas and co.
Maybe we should offer the Keane £15m to Zenit? Some last-ditch gazumping.

That would be the greatest last minute deal ever. The lad would be ideal for us.

Anyone else think that Arshavin would be a horrible addition to the team. Talented though he maybe there are a whole list of reasons why he is only just leaving Russia.
It's a tough one. He doesn't seem the sort who would get on well with Rafa.

I like the idea of an attacking minded player like him. I will say a prayer.
...Arshavin which art in heaven...etc.
1615: Andrei Arshavin has passed his medical at Arsenal, so he is very, very close now to completing his move from Zenit. I cannot wait to see that little genius from Euro 2008 in the Premier League. (BBC)

Wonder if they remember the terrible performances he put in too.

I hope he flops.
I really don't think a on - off player like Arshavin is what they need at all either. They desperately need some more strength and more consistency.

Completely agreed :handshake:
They need an enforcer not another showy ponce.

1721: Arsenal fans, don't look: One of our news agencies is claiming that Zenit and the Gunners have failed to reach a deal on the transfer of Andrei Arshavin. It is only one source, though, so we will try and get more on that as and when we have it. (BBC)

Zenit spokesman claims that the two clubs have failed to reach an agreement and Arshavin will not be moving to Arsenal.

We should try and nick him now!!
Haha Arsenal. They thought Zenit would finally give in to their valuation. Didn't work.
If this doesn't go through then it makes SSN a laughing stock for claiming at 5pm that the deal papers had been lodged with the premier league
I reckon SSN are a laughing stock anyway, especially that smug cunt Andy Burton.

God no! He is a waster and a show pony who won't put in the effort and won't promote a harmonious squad.

arsenal needed a solid central midfielder and a defender and they tried to sign another attacker . why? then people say rafa is nuts
Have never been the same since Viera left.
They get Nasri for £12m and now Arshavin for £12m. Who do we get? We go and weaken ourselves. Why do we always shoot ourselves in the foot?

Whoever negotiates transfers for Arsenal are bloody genius's, we buy Robbie Keane for £18-20m and sell for £12m wtf? Arsenal pick up world class players in the £10m bracket.

we buy torres for 2o million and he is worth 5 x that now. Cant see Arshavin having a good resale value.

Possibly, the Gooners usually get good resale value from their players too, look at Hleb as a recent case.

You never know. They'll probably manage to sell him to Barça for twice the price they're paying now.

i think the point stands, Arsenal invariably do a lot better business than us :handshake:

Nasri world class? Arshavin world class? Come on neither have set the world on fire. Nasri looks like he could become a decent player but has hardly set the premiership on fire, and Arshavin had a few good games in top competition but apart from that needs to show he can do it at the toughest league in the world.

Seeing as they haven't yet shown any signs of improvement since last year and we quite obviously have I have to say I'd rather be in our position. Not saying i wouldn't like us to have their negotiation team though.

Nasri has looked good in small patches, think he will get better....and Arshavin have this horrible feeling that he will be fantastic at arsenal he has the talent for sure just see if he applies himself

Yup Nasri has been good this season but not great and no way close to world class. I really dont think Arshavin will make it here and he seems a moody sort who could cause trouble in the dressing room.
Has to be some reason why only Arsenal have put a bid in for him, it was clear Zenit was hoping for a bidding war but none of the other top clubs wanted him.

The clubs had been in discussions over the move for the duration of the transfer window but the 1700 GMT deadline passed on Monday without any official word on the player's future.
It was understood that Arsenal had agreed a fee with Zenit, during which time Arshavin, one of the stars of Euro 2008, accepted personal terms and passed a medical.
Reports suggested the deal collapsed when the clubs could not reach an agreement, with the claim being the move broke down over the size of the fee and compensation Zenit would be paid for allowing Arshavin to break his contract.
The PL made the statement about transfers held up by the weather but i can't believe that is the case with this deal. I think it was a case of Zenit pissing about. What's the chance of the PL blocking the move though? Zero I'd think.
The girlfriend of new Arsenal forward Andrey Arshavin has branded Londoners "dirty and scruffy". On the Russia star's website she also said English food is disgusting, she doesn't like English beer and is already feeling homesick after a few days. (BBC Gossip)

Nasri is very average. Thank God we didn't lash £12m on him.
We are no weaker now Keane has gone than we were when he was here.
