They kicked our ay-ess that night...
I was there that night and for a while we were the better side. One nil up and missed chances for more. Suddenly though, for about the last 40 minutes, Barca led us a merry dance. If I remember rightly the Centenary Stand pretty much all rose as one to applaud their third goal. I haven't known that happen too many times.

I was there and we were given a footballing lesson. I've never seen a better opposition team at Anfield than Barca that night.

It'd be a toss up for me between that Barca side and Rafa's Valencia. Two totally different sorts of team; one all swagger and style, and the other ruthless efficiency.
At times we gave Overmars the freedom of Anfield but they were an absolute joy to behold - a privilege to see them at such close quarters.

I remember the season before they had 5 brilliant attackers at their disposal and sometimes they were all on the pitch at the same time!
Kluivert, Overmars, Figo who'd left by the time this game came, Rivaldo, Luis Enrique.
Unbelievable. And a young Xavi making the play in the middle (Guardiola having just retired I think) with the very underrated Cocu doing all the dirty work.
Funny enough, Pepe was on their bench that night.
Anyway was Kaip the only other person to find the duck commentator funny? :D

Yeah - that commentary was funny alright. Weirdo.
Overmars in his prime was incredible, and I always thought Luis Enrique was very underrated outside of Spain.
Liverpool: Dudek, Carragher, Henchoz, Hyypia, Riise, Gerrard, Murphy, McAllister, Smicer, Owen, Heskey. Subs: Kirkland, Fowler, Berger, Diomede, Biscan, Wright, Litmanen.
Barcelona: Bonano, Christanval, Andersson, de Boer, Coco, Luis Enrique, Gabri, Xavi, Cocu, Rivaldo, Kluivert. Subs: Reina, Reiziger, Saviola, Overmars, Gerard, Rochemback, Geovanni.

Good grief! Talk about a mismatch!
I know, amazing huh? Although the hapless Fabio Rochemback scored for them (which I'd forgotten) and now he's public enemy number one in Middlesbrough of all places.
