Guardian -

The Liverpool co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett were present at Anfield having earlier put on an unusual show of solidarity by holding joint talks with the Royal Bank of Scotland. Liverpool's co-chairmen are due to repay a £350m refinancing deal on the club in July with their joint appearance before the bank believed to have been to discuss an extension.....

Tom Hicks and George Gillett in Liverpool unison for Arsenal thriller
Liverpool's American co-owners sat together at Anfield last night for the first time this season - and the first for more than a year - watching Rafael Benitez's side produce a 4-4 thriller against Arsenal.

By Rod Gilmour
Last Updated: 8:05AM BST 22 Apr 2009

Tom Hicks and George Gillett have been at odds over the direction of the club for much of the last two seasons, but the bickering has taken a backseat ever since Benitez signed a new contract last month.

The duo's visit came as a July deadline approaches to refinance the loan that funded their takeover of Liverpool two years ago. And the calculators came out early at Anfield after witnessing eight goals on another pulsating night.

Also in the directors' box was Amanda Staveley, who was the chief negotiator for last year's failed takeover bid by Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Staveley negotiated the Abu Dhabi United Group's buyout of Manchester City in September.

Hicks, who has said he is looking for new partners to invest in Liverpool from the Middle East, and Gillett have been assessing their personal financial situations amid the global economic crisis.

Gillett has appointed financial advisers to explore a recapitalization of his assets, which could include the sale of the Montreal Canadiens.

And Hicks' company, which wns the Texas Rangers and Dallas Stars, has defaulted on about $525 million in loans.

Cream has got a few bits of info right in the past few months hasnt he? So its fair to assume there might be some truth in this one. Interesting.

Oh and Craig you are right that pic you showed is definitely not her.

The pics of last nights game do seem to be the real Amanda Stavely though, so is it fair to assume the news is relating to Dubai?

If so they have managed to keep this very quiet. But that is exactly how they like to do business, so its not beyond the realms of possibility.

I know it's not the best barometer but most Mancs I know up here don't want to keep him. They love his attitude, heart and desire but say he's not good enough. I tend to agree.

In about two appearances that greaseball Macheda has scored one fewer league goal than Tevez has in about 30 more appearances. Tevez has scored three league goals all season.

Nah, I disagree. Tevez gives them far more than goals. His all round game - work rate, creativity, unselfishness, knack of scoring in big games - is fantastic. I cant believe that Berbatov is above him in the pecking order.

This season hasnt been his best, but he's shown what he can do over the past couple of years. And to his credit he hasnt thrown a stop over being left out of the side.

I'd be delighted if we signed him. With Tevez, Kuyt, Mascherano and Torres in the team the opposition would have almost no time to settle on the ball.

I've got an idea, why doesn't everyone just be patient and wait just a few more days to see if anything materialises and the people who say something will happen in next day or two are right, seen as this as rumbled on for over a year, whats a few more days?

Why is everyone getting so worked up? Anyway, the 'informants' said next day or two, not the next hour or two, so just wait, cue the the next week going past with nothing from the club...

Take it from me, we will be still in the hands of Hicks and Gillet until the end of the season at the earliest, why would they announce a takeover or change of ownership at such a crucial time when there is no need to, even if it wasa done deal they may as well just wait a month until the season is over to minimise effects.

Common sense people.

Oh, and for your info, the picture isn't Amanda Stavely.

From The TimesApril 23, 2009

Owners in united states of mind to keep LiverpoolOliver Kay
Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr, Liverpool’s American owners, have pledged to work together to battle through the financial crisis that has raised serious doubts about the ability of either of them to raise the funds to retain control of the club.

Hicks and Gillett are under growing pressure to refinance the club’s £350 million loans with Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and Wachovia, the American bank, before they are due to be repaid on July 25. In a rare show of unity, the Americans entertained representatives of RBS at Liverpool’s 4-4 draw against Arsenal at Anfield on Tuesday evening and attempted to persuade their guests that their differences are behind them as they look to sustain their troubled regime beyond July.

A refinancing agreement would give Hicks and Gillett some stability, at least in the short term, but both are under growing financial pressure. Gillett is looking for an external investor to buy into his sporting empire, which includes the Montreal Canadiens ice hockey franchise as well as his 50 per cent stake in Liverpool, while Hicks, who has been more bullish about his financial position, was forced to admit recently that his Hicks Sports Group had defaulted on monthly interest payments on three loans as he, too, battles with the consequences of the economic crisis.

A change of ownership still appears the most likely scenario in the medium term. Although Hicks continues to make overtures to the al-Kharafi family, either to be minority investors or to buy the club in case he and Gillett fail to raise the capital needed to refinance, doubts remain about how genuine the Kuwaitis’ interest is. A renewed bid from Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, remains a possibility, though not at this stage.

Benitez's silence speaks volumes
Whichever way the ownership issue is resolved over the coming months, there seems certain to be a return to Liverpool for Kenny Dalglish, the most celebrated player in the club’s history.

Dalglish, who resigned as Liverpool manager in February 1991, has been out of football for almost nine years, but is discussing a return to Anfield in a consultancy role in which he would work closely with Rafael Benítez, the manager, and act as a figurehead for the club’s youth academy.

“If I can be of help to the club I love, in any capacity, I’m more than happy to play any part I can,” Dalglish, 58, said. “If the manager or the people running the club think there’s a role for me, I’ll fill it happily.”

Was at work today and got talking to some well off fella. He told me the same thing. Having seen this I'm guessing that he is a member on the offal and is just reporting back what he read.

Never met the bloke before and was just starting idle chit chat when subject of footy came up. I mentioned i was a Liverpool fan and he told me that the club had been bought out by some fellas from the middle east and that the announcement will be tomorrow.

I naturally asked for more info and how he knew and he wouldn't tell me anything else, just that I will see tomorrow and i heard it from him first!

Well I will see him tomorrow and I will mention this. My guess is he'll just laugh! FWIW it is possible from what he does (no comment, don't ask. Some on here know what I do and let's say he's on the other side. Just want to us to be secure financially and be able to buy what we need (which isn't that much) when it becomes available. At the moment, financial security is more important than ever and whoever can provide it will be most welcome. If the olny source is a rich billionaire backer, then so be it, as long as it's the right one (i.e. doesn't act like we're his play thing as in Chelsea's case.)

I'd be inclined to agree.... not looking for us to be a millionaires plaything..... But I would like someone to build us a new stadium and then we can compete on all fronts with the financial muscle of other clubs who don't have a fraction of our fan base. Once we have the stadium we'll get the bums on seats and the money will look after itself then.

Exactly.

I wouldn't have wanted a new owner in the first place had Moores been in a position to secure financial backing for the stadium. It's all about the long term future of the club.

Whoever we get in next though will have to go some to be more full of shit than H+G and I only hope that there is one man at the top who makes the decisions.

Big news on the offal!

Rafa Benitez today confirmed he has spoken to Kenny Dalglish about a potential return to Liverpool for the Anfield legend.
Dalglish has been linked with a role in the club's hierarchy and earlier this week the legendary number seven admitted he would relish the chance to return to the Reds.

"I have had conversations with him and he is happy to help the club in any way," Benitez told his weekly press conference at Melwood.

"We are still talking and it is very positive."

The Reds will turn their attentions to on the field matters tomorrow when they take on Hull City at the KC Stadium.

Liverpool go into the game having conceded eleven goals in their last four matches and Benitez admits the statistic is cause for concern.

"It's difficult because we were playing against very good teams," said the Anfield boss.

"Chelsea and Arsenal are teams who are offensive and can score goals against anyone. You have to be worried if you conceded four, but it was against good teams.

"If we can find the same level we had before in defence and keep the same level we have now in attack it will be perfect.

"Against Arsenal, we made three individual mistakes and each of them cost us a goal. Sometimes it's not down to luck.

"For the fans these games are good, but for a manager it means something is wrong."

Phil Brown's side held Liverpool to a 2-2 draw in the fixture at Anfield earlier this season. The Tigers raced into a two goal lead before Steven Gerrard struck twice to draw the Reds level.

The skipper will sit out tomorrow's encounter having also missed the last three games with a groin injury. However, Benitez has been delighted with the performance of his squad in the absence of the 28-year-old.

He said: "It is very positive that we have done well without him. It means we have quality in the squad. The confidence without Stevie is still high, which is really good."

Benitez is anticipating another testing battle with the Tigers.

"It will be a very difficult game against a team who are strong and play with determination," he added.

"We know we have to approach the game thinking about winning. It will be very difficult, but this is the Premier League.

"We are in a very good position because we have done a lot of things. Maybe we could be better because we have made some mistakes, but that is part of the game."

Benitez was also quizzed by reporters about potential summer signings, but the Liverpool chief refused to be drawn on talk of any potential targets.

"It's too early - summer is too far away," he said. "We are not talking about players, we are just focusing on the league.

"All the big clubs are working hard with the scouting department. We are pleased with the progression of the squad but always you can improve."

Somehow I don't think there will be an announcement at this late stage in the week. Tonights papers kill be key. Any "off the record" or "official source" comments may have been made before/after todays press conference. Not holding my breath though. Just another false dawn. Great news bout king kenny though.

LFC:
I work for a large financial establishment, and the company has, on the request of the current Liverpool owners, been working on various ways to refinance the club, to release more funds – After months of trying and approaching several different banks, we have drawn a blank (no–one wants to take the risk) – So, the only option is to sell. the good news is, that there are three genuine offers on the table – All for similar amounts and all promising to fund the new stadium and release funds for transfers (in the region of £35m)– The Americans are reluctant to sell to DIC, as they have not been impressed with recent dealings, so it is potentially down to two, being a consortium from Kuwait plus a new bidder which is being fronted (but not solely funded) by none other than Richard Branson. He loves the idea of having his Virgin branding flashed all over the globe in an instant ! So, watch this space ! Fact – not rumour

Enjoy the weekend

Not being racist here but once bitten, twice shy. I wouldn't want a non-Arab now during this recession period. And even then I don't want the Dubai lot as their oil will be finished in a few years and they're living a dream in the desert which will fall around them eventually.

Kuwaiti deal is the one I'm praying for.

Good for the environment though.

Seriously though, are you not embarrassed that the club has to prostitute itself to the highest bidder in this way? I think it's tragic, but it is a tragic symptom of what football in this cuntry has become.

I prostitute myself to my (sometimes inept) bosses and senior colleagues every single day of my life - yes that includes weekends now - so that I can pay my mortgage. That is the sad reality of life, not just football in this country.

Despite all the false dawns over the past 2 years, I honestly believe that the club will change hands soon, i.e. before the refinancing deadline. Hicks and Gillett will come to their senses and do the right thing, the best thing for the club, and make a few bucks in doing so.

The owners of an Indian IPL cricket club have emerged as the latest suitors to buy into Liverpool.
Leading members of the Indian-based GMR group, which is owned by Grandhi Mallikarjun Rao, were in Merseyside this week.
They sat alongside the American co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett in the Anfield directors' box for the 4-4 draw with Arsenal.
The GMR group run the Delhi Daredevils IPL side but are believed to be looking to expand into other sports.
The talks come as Hicks and Gillett must soon refinance the £350m loan which enabled them to buy the club.
Other possible suitors include Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum of Dubai's ruling family, as well as Nassar Al Kharafi of Kuwait.
