Doubt it. The Chinese will keep them in line.

I have to say I think you are right. This will not be a cake walk as Iraq qas in the two wars. This will eb a modern Meatgrinder - to use an American Phrase. GW Bush seems to be gagging for a war with Korea.

They haven't been too successful so far. The Koreans want to align themslves with Iran and Venezuela, hardly a conciliatory move to the Chinese. N Korea seems to be out of control. Someone's going to have to invade I think.

I just can't see how America can go start another conflict at the moment, they must be pretty stretched trying to deal with Iraq and Afganistan?!?

As far as I know, there's no oil in N.Korea, so I'm pretty sure the US will be less likely to go wading in straight away.

Aren't they still in Iraq losing men?

Bush infamously described himself as a "War president"; still I honestly don't think he'll have the minerals to invade North Korea. Unlike Afghanistan and Iraq, Korea have a standing army of millions, that's discouragement enough.

If it escalates any further look for the Chinese to cut off all trade with North Korea. Then they'll really be fucked.

Other things are on the agenda first I'd say.

America is too over-stretched for one thing to invade without sorting out the mess in Afghanistan and Iraq first. Then you have to give the troops adequate rest periods - if anything was going to happen it would be by Stealth - either an airstrike or a covert strike mission depending on the location of any Nukes.

Of course NK is still apparently several years away from developing a warhead small enough to fit on a standard rocket never mind an ICBM. Short term solution is for the US to place Japan and SK under it's nuclear umbrella by means of a treaty.

Plenty of breathing space and too much over-reaction.

Sadly we are still losing troops in Iraq. What I am talking about is the conflict between the armed forces. The Koreans won't run, they're well trained and well motivated.

No doubt they'd fight to the last man, if push came to shove.

There may be no oil, but Oil aint the only way of making money. Japan and other countries make a hell of a lot of things that we all depend on. No one will want the Sony factory etc turning into dust.

Countries should be VERY careful before they consider trade restrictions and effectively cutting off countries. Look what happened when the world did it to Germany.

Ever wonder how Hitler became so popular?

They are like ants.

There was a German General during the war who said 'its like an elephant fighting ants' referring to the Germans fighting the Russians. The Elephant may be big and strong and all powerful, but the ants would keep coming and coming. It'd be the same against the North Koreans.

Yes but will they be like the Russians in WW1?; not all of them had guns.

They didnt all have guns in WW2 yet they still kept coming. Besides, China wont stand idly by if North Korea is threatened with invasion.

I thought that whilst watching the news last night! Why can't every one just leave everyone else alone and just "get on"! :(

The North Korean army is huge but its quite badly equipped and allegedly ill-disciplined. Whose to say how they would react in a war? Would they fight to the bitter end?? Or would they be useless like the Republican Guard were in the first Gulf War?
Maybe the population of North Korean would see it as an opportunity to overthrough the dictatorship? Who knows.
