View Full Version : Saviola
Liverpool are set to bid just £5m for Real Madrid striker Javier Saviola.
The 27-year-old Argentina international is seen by Reds boss Rafa Benitez as a possible strike partner for Fernando Torres.
Saviola seems keen to leave Real and the Spanish club are desperate to sell players now to fund their new purchases

Read that earlier, £5m seems a bit steep.

Many times, but most recently as a deadline day loan signing to replace Keane.

can't see another thread on this so though I would start one.
I would for £5m
Granted he's small and slight, and would have some issues with the Prem, but for that money he can't be much of a risk and you never know - the lad has talent, but he's been forgotten.... he must be itching to prove himself. He'd be a decent support imo. Maybe not the player to lead the line absent Torres, but at £5m a decent supplement.
But not for Xabi. Having said that, Rm would probably accept £50 given the dreamland they're in right now.
How old is he? I remember at one stage he was touted as being one of the best in the world and every bastard was after him
I know nothing about what he's been up to recently though, could he have gone off the boil THAT much?
Fuck that. We should have signed him for free from Barca rather than now. I would rather gamble on Owen for free than Saviola for 5 million

Id take a punt, he could be fucking brilliant for that fee. Depends on the lads mentality.

Is he really, had thought he was older, years left in him then.
he dives a lot though, i remember one outrageous one against us, think he might have got a pen as well
Didn't he handball his way to a goal against us once? On loan at Monaco?

yes it was the 2004-2005 season and in those famous words of Alan Partridge....needless to say we had the last laugh!!!
..and I haven't really seen him play for yonks now. What the hell is wrong with him? He had the talent but he seems to have completely gone off the radar. I know playing in the French league is basically 'going off the radar' but..does he have motivational problems?

Me too. I think he's a very good player, bu he managed to always choose the wrong club somehow, he has wasted his career sitting on the bench.

I don't think he's all that good. He can finish but I think he contributes nothing much to general play and so, overall, weakens the team. He reminds me of Owen after defences had started to work him out but before the injuries took their toll.

Not massively keen. Once upon a time I rated Saviola but I think that boat has long since gone, his career has totally, and imo irrevocably, stagnated. I have massive doubts now about his mentality, and his ability to adapt to English footy now.
He needs regular footy at a club where he can come into his own again. I don't see us being that club.
I also think Rafa would have signed him already if he fancied him as a player.
yep tend to agreee with the above, massive potential but there must be a reason that in the last 4 seasons he hasnt even got into double figures. Another player that doesnt come across as a Rafa type player.

The 2008 'Mata'
Saviola was a striker, Mata isn't :D
Fuck no! Mental to pay anything for this guy. Not even remotely good enough and definitely a bullshit link.

The 2008 'Mata'
Not even remotely. Saaavvvvvy was like the 2004-5 Mata. Both of them are just pale immitations of VDV c.2003 though
kurtangled! :haha:
Haha. Although I'm not sure if random bumping counts for kurtangling technically
