one of my mates works a 4 on 4 off shift pattern (2days 7am-7pm , 2nights 7pm-7am). his boss told him they are changing to a 6 on 3 off pattern (3 5am-2pm then 3 2pm til 11pm) with nite covered by someone else. does anybody know what the notice is to change a shift pattern this much as it is a change of lifestyle? Plus he is more pissed off coz he has a season ticket for spurs home and away.

any help will be appreciated

I think you're right, 12 or 13 weeks rings a bell. However get him to seek advice because in some cases if your hours are being moved substantially (i.e. nights to days or vice-versa) then they have to offer you a redundancy package.

I weeks notice for every year of employment, but get him to ring ACAS to be certain. Their helplien is for employees and employers

It also depends on what his contract of employment says and how long he has been on his current shift pattern
