Wonder if they'll go out & buy a player or two now.

Well if they're consistent in their coverage then it'll be 'Crisis at Old Trafford.'

I'm imagining more along the lines of 'Early Season Blip' though.

The press always seem to have more fun predicting a crisis for us. Plus nobody would want to make Fergie even more purple with rage then he will probably be tonight.

They will say **** all. So far I can see "Burnley wonder goal!" but nothing along the lines of "scum are **** and will get 7th"

I'm sure they'll recieve the same press as we would if we were beaten by Burnley.

From 365 quite possibly the most understated write up of a game I have seen

Liverpool got their season up and running with a convincing 4-0 victory over Stoke at Anfield.

Steven Gerrard created the first goal of the season for Fernando Torres, the Spaniard drilling home from 12-yards early on.

Glen Johnson, on his home debut, hooked Actually is was a mother ****ing sublime Overhead B cycle kick in the second a minute from the break, Dirk Kuyt stabbed home the third from a Gerrard pass actually it was a worldclass piece of team play followed by an equally worldclass numeg followed by pass and finish, hardly a ****ing tap in after 78 minutes, with David Ngog heading the fourth in injury-time. Again if alcohol induced memory serves me correct Ngog actually had a tap off the back of some sublime work on the wing .. I am think it was Glen Johnson but I was far too exuberated at the stage to notice

You mean when Johnson took on two defenders, did double scissors, ran to the endline and produce a very good cross.

                    Great report

I'm not having that, Rafa is the one rotating players and resting Torres and Gerrard, that's why Liverpool will never win the league.

Ronaldo? Owen will give them guaranteed goals and he's better than Tevez. A masterstroke from Sir Alex. Nani is also going to be a star.

Alonso? Big blow for them by losing him. Can't see how they'll handle that departure. He's (suddenly) the best midfielder in the world and as important as Torres and Gerrard.

Hilarious pic of Owen with head in hands on the back of the MEN which I've cut out & have in me pic frame on me desk.
                        3rd place. Worst champions ever.

                          Exactly. Ridiculous.

All I can say is that the history is writted down by the winners. If We fail to win the league it will be down to no Alonso. If we win it will because canny Rafa knew Alonso was holding us back. Same situation for the Mancs with Ronaldo.

Last season I read Chelsea needed major investment to win the league, now they're favourites because they kept John Terry. Todays news is tomorrows fish and chips paper.
                          Forwards.......

was thinking this myself - I have watched both ours and united two openers! - lets have a fair (well i'll try and be ) look at both clubs

1st game - liverpool vs spurs - we had injury concerns to carra/skrtel/gerrard - then cara and skrtel decided to kill each other - out played by spurs side that are full of confidence under redknapp and will prob finish top 7 and we derservedly lost - tough opening game for ANY team

United vs Birmingham - easy opener for united against a newly promoted side that look rather short of quality and surely a candidate for relagation - United were average at best and limped to a 1-0 win! the way they played and the way spurs played united would have lost at white hart line

2nd game - us Home to Stoke(well organised and will prob do enough to stay up again) - we ****ing outclassed them from start to finish, great performence from everyone in red

Burnley vs united - united against a 2nd newly promoted team 2 games ina row!!! could you have asked for an easy start - all due respect to burnley but they look even more toothless than birmingham and surely a favourite to be relagetd! - United lose!!!!

Both clubs have sold major players for a lot of money - though there loss of ronaldo is surely a bigger loss than us losing alonso - neither club has made any signings yet that make you think **** ME!! (ie a villa/ribery esque signing)

SO which club is in crisis!!!!!!! media are a bunch of cunts, and i really do feel for benitez at times! maybe being a red we see it more and i might be biased, but even bitter bitter bluenoses i know have said this to me - rafa takes some ****ing **** from the press!! for what 2-3 years now it has just been constant mud slinging at the man! non stop practically abuse - every single tiny little thing he does no matter how insignificant, gets thrown under the microscope and hammered by every media outlet for about a week! It just doesn't happen to any other manager!
i own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do

Losing referees Riley and Styles worse than losing Ronaldo, says Ferguson

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has claimed that recently retired referees Mike Riley and Rob Styles are a bigger loss to his team than departed Cristiano Ronaldo.

United stuttered through an unconvincing 1-0 opening day victory against Premier League new-boys Birmingham City, and Ferguson’s men were clearly missing the threat normally posed by compliant match officials.

Despite a win secured by a Wayne Rooney goal, Ferguson was less than pleased with how his team had coped with the new refereeing roster.

“A win is a win, but the nature of the victory was more than a little concerning,” said Ferguson in the post-match press conference.

“People will point to the 20-odd goals you could expect from Cristiano, but nobody ever mentions the sterling work done by Riley and Styles in creating those goals.”

“Those guys were real team players, the unsung heroes of much of our success.”

“They would contribute all over the pitch, not just with favourable penalty decisions in both areas, but with 50/50 challenges all over the pitch,”

“There is also the awarding of free-kicks in shooting range and the numerous goal line clearances.”

“But most of all, I think we’ll miss their uncanny ability to make the game seem longer than it’s meant to be when we really, really needed it.”

                              Referees

A Premier League official has reacted to Sir Alex’s claims by leaping to the defence of the new referees.

“They’re just learning the ropes, and obviously don’t yet know the Premier League hierarchy that’s currently in place.”

“But we’ve invested heavily in their development and they’ll be up to speed soon enough, it’s just a matter of gaining the right experience.”

“And nothing gives you that experience like being subjected to a 96th minute spittle-infused rant from Sir Alex.”

“After that, I am sure they will be significantly more compliant
