Robbie Fowler refuses to start on bench for North Queensland Fury

Have we had a "Bring back God" thread yet in this transfer window?

The former Liverpool and England striker Robbie Fowler sat and watched his North Queensland Fury team-mates from the stands rather than take his place on the bench for their A-League match against Brisbane Roar on Saturday.

Fowler refused to start as a substitute for the home match against Brisbane in Townsville and was subsequently left off the team sheet by the Fury coach, Ian Ferguson. Brisbane and North Queensland subsequently played out a 1-1 draw.

Ferguson later denied that Fowler had made his final outing for the club. "No, not at all," he said. "There's a couple of issues we have to sort out. Robbie's a great player, he's an experienced player, he's a player that we want to keep at the club.

"At the end of the day I felt it was obviously a decision I had to make, I wanted Robbie to go on the bench and he refused to go on the bench. We'll go over it on Monday, we'll have a serious talk and see what it takes."

Fowler has scored nine goals this season for the ninth-place Fury but reports have suggested the 34-year-old is seeking to leave despite still having a year to run on his contract. Fowler, who is the Fury's captain, has admitted that his wife has failed to settle in North Queensland.

Fowler told the Daily Mail this week that his wife is finding it tough adjusting in Townsville, the northern Australian city where the Fury are based.

"The kids are very adaptable to where they are, but my wife still needs a bit of convincing," he said. "It's not like back at home where there's more stuff to do and more families that we know, so she's still adjusting."

Fowler, who scored 161 goals in the Premier League, became one of the A-League's biggest recent recruits when he joined the Fury in February of last year.

That rug really tied the room together.

Heard a snippet about this on the radio yesterday. Apparently he's been playing CM for the last few matches and hasn't been happy about it - anyone here watch the A-League and can confirm it?

Also, that Daily Mail interview... Fowler also had a lot of good things to say about Australia too

pretty ****ing shameful behaviour that. The guy is paid a lot of money, and is supposed to be a professional. He's their captain and he's acting like a spoiled kid. What kindof impression is that setting.

If he wasn't a Liverpool legend everyone in this thread would be condeming him.

yeah must be a tough life...

have to say, Im not Fowlers biggest fan. Thought he came across as a bit of a cock in his autobiography. I mean, how many times do you want to point out that you're from a working class background Robbie??!

Everyone is a 'bit of a cock', for example coming across like you aren't particular fond of God is also being bit of a cock

Requesting a transfer because he's unsettled? Sure, that's understandable.

Refusing to start on the bench? That's bignote behaviour and pretty wanky.

If a player refused to start on the bench for us we'd be comdemning him without exception.

Extremely dissapointing to see him acting like this. He is a legend but this appears to be the behaviour of a grade A ******.

Yes, I see. I'm half joking around here, anything he does in another club isn't going to lesser my opinion of him because like you said, he's a legend. And yes, if Stevie G did that we would be pissed so I don't disagree with you, but at the same time he's not doing this at Liverpool so I couldn't care less.

Anyway, I want him back here, to fill in the spot!

Disappointing behaviour from him really, could easily have been a legend at two clubs that couldn't be much further apart.

On the other hand I don't blame his missus, there's a hell of a lot of time to fill when you're a lady of leisure in that part of the world. Robbie should have gone to Sydney the year before.

You are reacting to a newspaper story from a different continent as if you were in the dressing room when it happened. The fact is he is a Liverpool legend and most of us would always give him the benefit of the doubt..........

In terms of being working class it may not be important to you but to people like Fowler and the people who idolise him this common ground and the fact that he's one of us is massively important. In an age of the £80,000,000 footballer it's quite special for one of us to not only represent the city on the pitch but also to put his neck on the line to stick up for the sacked dockers.

Oh and to the others calling an absolute legend of our club a ******, etc etc go **** yourselves.
