Everton's Marouane Fellaini ruled out for six months

Fellaini's absence will be keenly felt by Everton, says Moyes
Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini will miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury.

The 22-year-old was injured during a controversial incident involving Sotirios Kyrgiakos during Everton's 1-0 defeat by Liverpool on 6 February.

However, the severity of the injury was only ascertained this week after the player consulted with a specialist.

"He has a very serious injury and needs an operation so he will be out for six months," said Everton boss David Moyes.

"It looks like it is the same as (Arsenal striker) Robin van Persie's (injury)," added the Scot, speaking before the Toffees' Europa League clash with Sporting Lisbon.

Van Persie injured ankle ligaments while on international duty for the Netherlands against Italy back in November and has not played since.

And it would appear Everton will likewise have to plan without Fellaini, who had been due to visit the specialist last week before his train to London was cancelled, at least until the start of next season.

Speaking last week, Moyes had said: "He's got a really bad ankle. I was really surprised - it was like an elephant's ankle, it was that bad.

"He has been integral part of how we have played in recent weeks and he will be a miss."

Just heard about Big Fellaini. Rotten news for you's that, he's a cracking player. Hopefully Arteta can get back to fitness quick sharp

Greek defender Kyrgiakos saw red for his part in the tackle during a typically fiery derby encounter at Anfield.

However, some observers contended that Fellaini was equally at fault, with television replays suggesting he connected with Kyrgiakos's shin.

After the game, though, Moyes backed his player - and continues to do so.

"I haven't changed my views, that it was a two-footed tackle off the ground [by Kyrgiakos]," said Moyes. "He was flying towards a player, he could see that coming all the way, so it was a sending off."

The Belgian international has been enjoying the best form of his Goodison Park career since his arrival on Merseyside for a club record fee of £15m in September, 2008.

Moyes even claimed that Fellaini was the best midfield player in the country based on current form following his starring role in the Toffees' 2-0 home defeat of Manchester City last month.

Never like to see a player seriously injured, but I think I'll make an exception for this nasty shit.

Seeing as he should be inside for what he did to Kuyt and his tackle on the Greek he's gotten off lightly.

Get a fucking grip - Xabi was not looking to injure Lampard in that tackle. Big difference ok.

Fellaini was a sly cunt with that nasty stamp over the top of the ball and came out second best. Yes, the cunt deserved what he got and I hope he will reflect now he has some time off and not be such a cunt in the future.

i felt the greek hardly tuched him, and fellaini's stamp on zorba resulted in him getting injured. well deserved imo, and i don't wish anyone an injury.

what ankle did he injure? Because from my recollection he appeared to roll the ankle that he stamped The Greek with...if so then thats karma. He got away with an atrocious tackle, and is paying the price now. He could have broken The Greeks leg very easily the way he went in.

Now we just need Pienaar to get Aids

I have to agre with spud_gun, reading the reponses to this thread its pretty embarrassing.

Personally I would sign Fellaini tomorrow as Stevie G's long tem replacement. He is a realy class player. a bit hot headed at times but thats it.

As pointed out in the other thread, someone else's shin bone is not a very safe place to plant one's foot at high speed, hence ankle ligament damage. Serves him fucking right the sly cunt.

Altho if Kyrgiakos' shin bone wasn't there in the first place, the afro wouldn't have felt the need to land on it surely?

In general, it is a long time since I've seen a player use his elbows as much as Fellatio. Serves him right, the nonce.
