He'd do really well here. I think we're just playing hardball with teams over fees, they have realise that if Chelsea aren't involved they can't screw us. I thought we did really well sticking to our guns on Simao, no way is he worth

That article from the Echo was written by the Everton journo - he's covering because Bascombe's on his hols.
He puts "mystified" in quotes in the headline (or the sub editor did) yet there is no quote in the article relating to Kuyt.
So this article means nothing really.
The original story in the Mail this morning had a few holes in though, so again, that article means nothing really.

I think we're still interested - if another team make a silly bid then good luck to them (and Kuyt). About

(It's gone very quiet on the Tunisian!)
Good point, a certain chubby person of north east links claimed he was at Anfield having a medical a few weeks ago.
I think we'll find out in a week or so if Mr Kite is coming. I still rate him :-)

I think you are giving credit to the wrong person there....:o
The story originated from Dave on TLW, and it was pretty much agreed that we had been negotiating with him and his agent and that he had been to the stadium for talks etc.
I believe it might be his dodgy knee(s) that have put pay to the deal, or maybe Rafa is holding off until the Alves deal sorts itself out.:lfc:

Just seen this on the BBC RSS feeds...

I think we are forgetting about his record in Holldand - which IIRC comes close to or betters Van Nitselhoof's record when he was playing back home.
We have a chnace of siging a player in a aimsilar mould, who has a rate of scoring at around 3 in every 5 games.
i for one would be exceedingly happy if we singed him.
and here we are - the last 4 seasons
# 02-03 FC Utrecht 34 matches, 20 goals
# 03-04 Feyenoord 34 matches, 20 goals
# 04-05 Feyenoord 34 matches, 29 goals
# 05-06 Feyenoord 33 matches, 22 goals
that's closer to 2 goals in every 3!
I'd love to see him at Liverpool - he's strong and hard-working. Now that we have Bellamy and Fowler (and Crouch and Pongolle of course) we don't necessarily need a 20+ goals a season man.
We do, mate, we do. Unless we get a bad run of injuries/suspensions I can't see Pongo getting more than 10 appearances this season. God is never going to start all games so that leaves us with Bellamy and Crouch. No disrespect to the big man (Crouch, not Bellamy :D ),but he ain't going to be the first name on the team sheet every game.
Which leaves Bellamy. I think Rafa is going to use him as the main striker and will bring in someone else to play alongside him regularly. Wether that is to be Kuyt or not remains to be seen, but I do think that that is what will be instore for our forwards next season.
I think a lot of people have underestimated the impact Bellamy will have this year. He improved Newcastle's play tenfold and his arrival at Blackburn secured them a European place.
If you search RAWK you'll see the opinion of the Geordie lad who runs one of their fanzines and he pretty much says the same thing.

Yeah they are impressive stats, but you've got to remember it's only the Dutch league.
And I know someone will eventually use the "He could be another Kezman" argument. If you look at the stats of the striker who burned up the Dutch League like Ronaldo, RVN, Ibrahimovic etc etc they all scored at a rate consistent with what they did in the Dutch League when they got transferred to a more difficult league. There goals to game rate did drop a bit, but not an awful lot.

According to BBC's gossip page today, Kuyt's agent says we lead the chase to sign him. However inevitably he goes on to say that we face strong opposition from other English and Spanish clubs

He's gonna sign. Too much talk in the press for it to be anything else.
Liverpool head race to sign Kuyt

Liverpool are leading the chase to sign Feyenoord's Dutch striker Dirk Kuyt, according to his agent Rob Jansen
Jansen told BBC Sport that it was "no secret" that the Reds were eager to sign the 25-year-old - but warned they face stiff competition.
"There are some clubs interested in England and in Spain," Jansen confirmed
Earlier this summer Kuyt said he would be keen on a move to Newcastle, while Tottenham, Everton and Arsenal have all been heavily linked with the frontman.
Jansen said he expected Kuyt to leave Holland before the start of the new season and hinted that England was his favoured destination.
"He has a special feeling for the Premier League," Jansen said. "But there are some major clubs playing on a world level in Spain too."
Kuyt was a part of the Dutch World Cup squad which lost in the second round to Portugal.
He started the tournament on the bench but broke into the side at the expense of Manchester United's Ruud van Nistelrooy.
BBC.
I'm with Red Al, I reckon that he will be signing, hopefully with Dudek and Kromkamp going in the other direction to lower the fee and the overall wages at the club.
It would then give us 4 genuinely different types of Striker at the club. Bellamy, Fowler, Crouch and Kuyt.
It would also surely signal the end for Pongolle. Maybe he could be part of the deal too?
I think it looks more likely that it will be Kuyt and Pennant everyday. Alves was clearly Rafa's number one target, so a bid for another player in that position means to me that we have missed out.
If we had the money for a

According to a certain informer we have made a new bid for Kuyt this afternoon and expect an answer back by Monday or Tuesday at the latest.

you know what makes me laugh with geordies though, they think they're on a level with us as a club. i remember when we signed didi, they were giving it "give it 12 months and he'll be fucking you over too". so having remembered that, this bit made me laugh
This "I supported Liverpool as a boy", don't be fooled by it. He may well have watched them play as a bairn and got one or two shirts but he'll have no real feeling for the club, just like when crunch come to crunch, he had none for Newcastle, the club who rescued him, spent big on him, put up with all his antics
