I really like the way Rafa uses the reserves as almost exclusively the u-21's. Gets a generation of players playing together all the way through to first-team level (hopefully), and its a good mix of mostly local lads with a smattering of foreign talent. All 5 of the kids promoted are local too, bonus. No more wasting time consistenty playing the failures like Cheyrou, Ferri and Diomede at that level, its the only way forward I reckon.
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?
It is a real step up from the end of the Houllier era when the reserves looked like a graveyard of wasted talent and players who had little enough in the first place.
I would like to see the process stepped up a gear this year with more reserve team players making cup/cameo appearances.

rafa has put a lot more effort into the academy and the reserves as he is building a squad with strength in depth for the future.
GH didn't bother with the academy.
