Lets start talking about what these sites should be used for 'Liverpool Football Club'

How to you think we'll fair next season? I think if we can sign one or two more quality players we'll have the best squad for years.

I think we need another forward and RW I just hope Rafa is given the cash to do this.

How do you think we'll line up next season? I think we might play more like we did away to Newcastle last season with 3 at the back. I can Agger getting more games but alongside Carra and Sami.

Any thoughts?

Well in mate. I think Rafa will shape the side to best test the opposition on the day, as he did brilliantly against the Toon last season. With more 'possibilities' this time around, on the left already with Aurelio and Gonzalez in the mix, and hopefully on the right too with a couple more signings, hopefully Alves as he's clearly Rafa's No 1 target and maybe Pennant as well, he'll be in a better position to change things more often. As you say, it's important he gets the cash he needs because we're still short-handed up front too.

What we need above all else though is to get off to a flyer - our sluggish start last year really cost us in the end.

I agree with you that we need another striker and a right winger. I'm sure the Board would give Rafa the money if the right player/players come along.

On another point when does the transfer window close?

Don't now about the line up for next season, probably depends on which players come in before the start of the season!

What about who will be the first choice strike partnership? Crouch/Bellamy or Crouch/Fowler and Bellamy on the right??

yep must get the RW and ST, hopefully Alves and Kuyt are our men.

The tranfer window closes on August 31st at midnight.

Transfer window doesn't close for a while mate a fair few weeks of gossip colums and parying yet.

It usually shuts on the 31st August I think.

One thing I'm hoping Rafa does next season is consistently play two strikers AS strikers - none of this lone striker with the other stuck out on the wong business. I can see him spending a couple or so months experimenting with the best strike partnership from Bellamy/Crouch/Fowler/Kuyt until he finds the best, then sticking with it the way Ged with Houllier - though only so long as it stays effective (unlike Ged).

I'm also hoping he repeats that 3-defenders formation a few times.

I'm curious as to which of the youngsters will come through, e.g. Hammill, Anderson, Hobbs, Antwi. And will Paletta have a long stint in the reserves or quickly make the first team?

If Anderson keeps playing like he did on Saturday I think he might get a few chances from the bench this season. If we get another striker I can see Rafa playing with 2 up front. Playing with one doesn't seem to work in England but I think we'll have lots of different formations and options next season. I also think Bellamy is the best bit of business any club will do in the close season.

Basically that he thinks Kuyt will leave Feynord in this window and that he has his heart set on England. The reporter kept on asking if he was joining Liverpool and he wouldn't comment but did say the price in the papers that Feynord want is rubbish it's lower.

Damn, I like the ring of "a few more weeks of Parrying about before the season starts"

If we can get the elusive right winger and second striker sorted this might be one of the first summers in ages we won't all be arguing about how crap Parry is by August. Like Shaggy I too haven't been looking forward to a new season so much in years :D

Reading between the lines, I think we're his preferred choice. If Rafa wants him and the cash is there, it'll happen.
A new cult hero in the making methinks. The Feyenoord fans love his commitment and graft by all accounts.

Have you seen the quotes from Kuyts agent tonight?

Has anyone on here seen Kuyt play, I mean regularly, in his club side, so he's been judged in his normal environment & usual position?

I've yet to meet anyone who has (well anyone sane, but that's other story), so all I've got to go on (yet again) is hype & hearsay.

Although the unknown is exciting, it can also be absolutely dreadful (Diouf, Diao, Sean Dundee, all immediately springing to mind, as well as countless others).

If you are talking about unknowns, how about Momo Sissoko last year..... ;)

I have seen Kuyt quite a lot on ESPN for Feyenoord and the Netherlands.

Exactly a Rafa type player. I'd welcome his signing.

I`m not sure we really need a striker.
We have three good ones: Crouch, Bellamy, Fowler
One that is OK and still has potential: Pongo
One not good enough, but can do a job:Mellor

Add to that the players that can play behind the strikers: Gerrard, Kewell, Garcia, Zenden.
So IMO RW is the important position to fill as we don`t have anyone that really thrives in that position.

I am not so sure. We need one IMO.

What if Crouch gets injured or gets into bad form?

Then we have no threat in the air and we rely on Bellamy and Fowler. Pongo has potential but isn't a consistent goal threat and the others we need for balance in the midfield IMO.

A fourth striker is then needed IMO. We don't know how Robbie's fitness situation is and Bellamy doesn't have the best track record with injuries.

Adding Kuyt would gives us:

1) Bellamy - Quick incisive striker.
2) Fowler - Experienced predator.
3) Crouch - Tall aerial threat.
4) Kuyt - Strong forward who can score and set up goals.

Possibilities.

You be banned as a Honorary can you?
I guess you can. I`ve had a great time at KT, but it`s time for something new. But enough about that.

Is there a future for Mellor at LFC?
He isn`t good/fit enough, but can we sell him. Or do we have to wait for his contracr to run out?

But Crouch isn`t a great arial threat. He`s good at hold up the ball, but his heading are weak, and he looses to many duels to be a big asset in the air.

LFCman
20-07-06, 09:42 AM
But he still offers a threat and still worries defences with his height. The option is still there.

Rich
20-07-06, 09:44 AM
I think Crouch can cause all kinds of problems aerially for teams, and as such he is a threat. However, for us he isn't a strong header of the ball and does not seem capable of attacking the ball.

Really looking forward to some proper footie after the WC. I think we will improve on last year, as the loss last year of proper break and preseason certainly seemed to
affect the start to the season.

FaganK
20-07-06, 09:54 AM
i actually think we will sign alves and pennant with kromkamp going out. which would leave us with finnan/alves as attacking right backs and pennant/alves as out and out right wingers. you need 2 people for each position.

as for striker i also think we'll bring someone in. possibly kuyt or a surprise name. problem is if bellers gets injured we dont have an out and out striker and im sure rafa is aware of that.

having said that with garcia, zenden and kewell able to play a supporting role behind the striker rafa might be happy with that.

i think rafa will want to have all signings in before we go away on our pre season tour or at least before it ends. so i expect some movement in the next 10 days.

think this season will be a great one for us. in reality chelsea's squad is unbeatable. the only thing we can hope for is if they have a mediocre start to the season and the media get on their backs and there is a bit of unrest in the camp.

chelsea will find it tough this season as lots of teams will just play for the draw and play 11 men beind the ball.

but i think we should get 2nd place and who knows abot 1st. we do have a genuine chance this season of winning it, which is, in reality, the 1st time we can say that in years.

arsenal will be strong again this season. not sure about united. think this will be fergie's last season in charge.

we need our defence to be as solid as last season, if not more so, and if that happens then we have a major chance of challenging.

we also have a great chance i europe without the italian teams

I don't know Fagan mate I think Chelsea are now becoming a bit of a laugh stock. It was in the papers today that they are trying to sign both Ashley Cole and Carlos. They are turning into another Real Madrid without the fan base or the history. I can't see Mouriniho being there next season it's obvious he isn't in total control of the transfers.

I can't see all those star players being happy and I think it could back fire on them. If we can get off to a good start and stay the pace I have a feeling we could really have a chance. We just need our guys to hit the ground running.

He is a threat with his height, but I think a lot of it are down to the fear opponents have for his height. As soon as he comes up against a central defense the are comfortable (sp) with that he struggles in the air.
The biggest advantage he has is that a lot of people underrates his skills with the ball on the ground. He`s far more effective with ball at his feet, the and in the air I think he really should be only a back-up solution the get the ball in the area.
The thing that might change this season is that he`ll play with Ballamy, a player that knows how to position himself to get to the ball Crouch head on. Cisse don`t know how to do this, and Morientes was to slow to capitalise on it.

Rich
20-07-06, 10:32 AM
True about Morientes, at times you could see, he knew where the ball was going to, but his legs wouldn't get him there quick enough. Bellamy shouldn't have that problem. ;)

Personally I think Crouch is actually quite good in terms of getting knock downs. It is his heading on goal and general attack towards the ball in the box that isn't as good. But still he is a threat and worries opposition defences.

Kuyt on the other hand isn't as tall but is much stronger and better at heading at goal.

The thing is I think we might need to have Crouch and Kuyt play together (as Robbie and Bellamy are quite injury prone) at least some times next year. Do you think this could work.

Can't see why not, but somehow it doesn't seem a natural partnership.

I'm gonna buck the trend here - I think we WILL sign Alves and Kuyt.

Alves is/was/has been Rafa's top target for ages now - we just can't give up when we've got so close.....
As for Kuyt - I think he'd be ideal for the Prem - and different option for us than what we already have up front (where I believe we are still weak). If you listen to what his agent has been saying - it sounds like the deal will happen.

As for the cash side of things - I reckon we have more cash than we're letting on.
