    New Rules for Football.

I'll be honest, I haven't fully thought through the concept of this thread and it relies heavily on you to actually get this off the ground. It kinda started in drunken conversation on Sunday about how we could make football even better and then it gets a little hazy.

So yeah, what rules do you think football needs to make the greatest game ... errr ... greater? Apart from reverting back to the old offside rule, obv.

Hows about two points for the team who had the most efforts on target in a draw, to discourage teams playing for a 0-0? Or a point to that team and none to the other?

Goal line technology has been done to death, but how about some time for referee's to review footage of a tackle to reduce the number of unecessary red cards? Or a card in between yellow and red?

And my creative juices are pretty much dying on the spot, so I'm off for some snap. Thoughts?

If it's a draw at the end of full time, 50 footballs are released onto the pitch and the side who scores the most wins.

Ref should carry a lie detector in his back pocket.

I'd like to see a panel set up to review matches and retrospectively punish cheating and fouling.

So if a player was adjuged to have dived, he might get a warning and then a 1 game suspension. This could be used for challenges that the referee has misjudged as well. What the **** does it matter if the referee has seen it or not? That shouldn't make a blind bit of difference - if he's got it wrong, fix it. The clubs themselves would soon start to stamp this behaviour out and it would have a huge impact on football all the way down to grass-roots level.

I'd also like to see a zero tolerance policy to abusing the referee.

It sets an awful example for youngsters who then feel it's ok to swear at adult volunteers who shouldn't have to put up with it. If rugby players can control themselves, then football players can do the same. I also think that referees would get more decisions right if they weren't having to deal with a group of over-paid tossers screaming blue murder them. The job is hard enough as it is.

The game should be made simpler.

There should be no active / inactive. If a player is in an offside position, they're offside. Make it easier for linesmen and they'll get more decisions right. Simple.

Not so much a rule for the game itself, but they need to abolish the "No live football at 3pm on a saturday" rule.

I'd gladly pay an extra subscription fee to watch all our matches live, with technology the way it is these days, there's no reason why they can't do it.

I understand the rule was set up to protect attendances at lower league teams but I think they need to give people the choice now.

How about ten minutes in the sin-bin for a yellow card offence, like in rugby?

Or a bonus point for scoring three goals or more?
That rug really tied the room together.

Games should be reviewed afterwards. And any player who is found to be diving, should recieve a ban. And if the offender repeats this ******* behaviour, the ban should be increased the next time. This rule will remove diving altogether.

1.) Stop & start the clock at the ref's discretion like in rugby, therefore no more arguing about time.
2.) Give each team 2 appeals in each half like in tennis/cricket ONLY for incidents that lead to a goal or a red card.
3.) Use neutral refs in the top leagues. (Spain, England, Italy, Germany, Holland, Portugal & Scotland).
                          4.) Goal line technology.
5.) Forbid the use of hands unless you're a keeper obviously. I know this rule already exists but it isn't enforced properly imo...
Thanks for the memories Rafa - YNWA!

I like this one BeverlyHillsKris; it means a complete overhaul of the FA which I am completely for and all that rubbish about undermining the referee and not looking back retrospectively is bollocks too. I think this should be used in other areas of football - appeals etc, but most definitely in areas of cheating; imagine a one game ban for Bale falling over - he wouldn't be the world's bestest player if he only played five times a season.

I'm undecided on this one, I think your reasoning is sound, but I can only go on previous experience and I loved giving the ref some when he cocked it all up. Don't get me wrong, I was respectful before, during and after the game - just not when he got it wrong.

I'd happily pay money to LFC for them to show the games live.
