[Echo] Bellamy can't wait to team up with stars

Bellamy can't wait to team up with stars
    Jul 20 2006
By Nick Smith Daily Post Staff

CRAIG Bellamy is eagerly anticipating the return of Liverpool's World Cup stars next week.

The Welshman is convinced they can help him continue to create a good early impression after his debut goal at Wrexham on Saturday.

Bellamy is particularly licking his lips at the prospect of teaming up with midfield duo Xabi Alonso and Steven Gerrard, who will return from their post-World Cup break following Saturday's next pre-season warm-up at Crewe.

And after getting precious little change from Momo Sissoko when Blackburn lost twice to Liverpool in the Premiership, Bellamy already has some first-hand knowledge of the awesome unit that will be supplying him with the ammunition this season.

"No disrespect to the players I've played with before because they've all helped me in my career, but this is just another level," said Bellamy.

"Gerrard is one of the best midfielders in the world and as for Xabi Alonso, I've still to see a better passer.

"He's an incredible player, he seems to have time on the ball and is never harassed.

"Momo Sissoko was a player who I thought was awesome when I played against him last year.

"They can do a hell of a lot for me but it's about what I do as well.

"I've got to use my pace and intelligence to help them and they can be a massive help for me."

Bellamy's infatuation with Liverpool seems to have taken on a new intensity since he joined them from Blackburn.

His first chance to greet the supporters at the Racecourse on Saturday suggested that the fans are ready to reciprocate the adulation that Bellamy has already bestowed on the club.

He has enthused about Anfield, former players, his new team-mates, ex-managers and the current coach, Rafael Benitez.

Although fallings-out with previous managers have blighted Bellamy's career at other clubs, particularly Newcastle, when he has admiration for the men he plays under, like his former Welsh manager Mark Hughes at Blackburn last season, it brings the best out of him on the pitch.

So being motivated to produce his top form for Benitez shouldn't be a problem.

"As a fan from the outside I liked what he has done, and being involved I can see why he has done so well," Bellamy added.

"I knew what to expect because I spoke to one or two people but he's surpassed all that.

"I wouldn't want to give too much away but it's no coincidence why he's been successful just from what I've seen in the first week and a half.

"It's a really good time to be involved with Liverpool."
I tell you what, I wasn't keen on him initially but I reckon he'll bang'em in for us.

If he does then surely for the price we got him he'd be be one of the buys of the season.

I think he will do well for us and he is at least giving good print at the minute.

Still he is my least favourite player in the squad. Not sure I will ever really take to him.

        So did Cisse.
But at Bellamy walk the the walk as well (At least in training).
Lets hope he does it in matches as well.

I heard that Cisse was untouchable in training when he came. And Cheyrou looked every bit the new Zidane against Inter in a friendly. I guess the difference is that Bellamy has done it over several seasons in the PL.

But was it reported that Cisse didn`t really care about training, and that was one of Rafas biggest problem with him?

                Wasn't it Lazio?

Bellamy has shown that under a manager who has faith in him he can produce the goods. If he stays fit then I think he can deliver for us.

I think it's clear that Rafa never had faith in Cisse. Still, you don't need faith to trap a ball.

I think he refused to make the changes in his game Rafa wanted. I guess it depends on how you look at training, for a coach it has to be about ironing out problems and improving players. For Cisse maybe it was about having fun and keeping fit and over time he just wasn't willing to adapt.

You are correct it was Lazio. My mistake.

Thing is, this whole myth about Cheyrou's performance against Lazio. I was there, and yes he had a decent game, and yes he produced the odd moment of skill - but is was played as a friendly and players stood off him, there were no tackles. I've seen far, far superior performances by our Midfielders in the last couple of years, in competitive games.

Cheyrou never was and never will be a top-line Footballer - not enough fight and ability to make it.

I know he's excited and all, but he's talking far, far too much for my liking.

I have serious doubts about Bellamy, and to be honest, i can't see him being any significant improvement on Djib.

Hope you are wrong AA. And I think he will prove you so.

I liked Djib but with the best will in the world he did my head in every time I saw him play. I know he was out of position but most times he gave the impression that he didnt want to know, and the best word to sum up his all round team play is "selfish" or possible "naive".

I would expect more teamwork and work ethic from Bellamy, and whilst I dont expect as many goals I would expect more PL goals.

Its just an opinion and a hope though. Reserve judgement until next May
