Can somebody tell me how a guy who's capped 50 times for his country can all of a sudden turn around and start playing for England ?

Are there no rules on nationality ?

The latest call up. Ed Joyce from Bray, Co. Wicklow. He's got 53 (I think) caps for Ireland and then decided he'd play for England instead because he was good enough.

As dww said the other day, Joyce has really turned his back on a glorious future there, hasn't he?!

Jesus do you really think I'm bothered about the Irish cricket team ? (A sport played by about 5 clubs in Ireland)

I didn't know we had a cricket team until we beat the W Indies a few years back.

What I'm asking is how can a guy just turn around and play for another country that he has no family links to and when he has already been capped for another country ?

No I don't think anyone on the entire planet is bothered about the Irish cricket team.

I'd assume it's because Ireland don't compete at Test level - are they not considered a minor County? He plays his cricket in England. Joyce can hardly be blamed for wanting to further his career and take part in the most eagerly awaited Test series for over 20 years.

What's he supposed to do? Say "thanks fellas but no thanks"?

I think it might be to do with the fact that England and Ireland are different members.

Englnad are full and Ireland aint.

I don't care who Joyce plays for Shaggy, I just think it's odd that there seems to be no rules regarding players switching countries (none that anyone can tell me about anyway)

We had Hanse Cronje play for Ireland at one stage.

I was wondering about the county point, because I know we play in whatever the cup competition is. Our Rugby League team playin the Cup over there too.

The Aussies are not blameless when it comes to fielding non Australians in their team, Andrew Symonds was afterall born in Birmingham.

Regarding Joyce, his situation is no different from that of Geriant Jones who was norn in New Guinea or even that of the Jamaican born John Barnes.

Tonight play starts at Midnight. I only hope i can stay awake as it will be another heavy night on the beer as the match is first. We Should do them at the Gabba as it is a fast wicket and should suit our fast bowlers like Matthew Hoggard with the reverse swing.

Can't wait for tonight. What are everyone's plans?

I couldn't justify being off tomorrow or Thursday (I'll save booking time off for later in the series) so I'll watch the "morning" session, which is due to end at 2am. Five poxy hours' kip and up for work.

Being a Pom in Oz tomorrow will be spent listening to the tripe these convicts come out with every Ashes series!

I'll be at work so will have the radio on at my desk and the telly on in the office. Hopefully the boss will beout a wee bit so I can nip round to the telly and watch it rather than listen.

                              COME ON ENGLAND!!!!!
