Debut post from a long-time lurker on that other site!!
I just can't see why there is all this hype about Kuyt - I think he's 26 years old tomorrow and yes, he's got a great games/goals ratio in the Dutch league over the past 4 or 5 seasons, but what really bothers me is that no other major clubs have been too interested in signing him, and at his age I would have thought that he would have been snapped up at least a couple of years ago. He's more or less the same age as Michael Owen.
How many of us who continually hype him up have actually seen him play on a regular basis? Not many I'd bet - were you really impressed with his showing in the WC? No, I for one will not be too disappointed if Rafa pulls the plug on the "deal" and turns his attention elsewhere.

Hi, I am an expat living in Utrecht where Dirk played before he moved to Feyenoord. I've seen him play about a hundred times.
He is not overly skilled or exceptional in physical charcteristics. He is a very good player here in the Eredivisie. He is determined and nearly always hits the target. He can score tap-ins, headers, shin-ins, volleys and the occasional screamer from outside the box.
He would not be good as a lone front man in a 451 but as part of a 442 (or 433 as the Dutch National side play) he could be very useful. Van Basten (Nederlands coach) rates him and considering that Van Basten is mentored by Johan Cruijff I give that evidence a lot of credence.
He is a cross between Shearer and Keegan. Both players without exceptional skill but with a passion and determination to succeed that made them maximise their talents. Also both players that needed a strike partner to get the best out of them.
Some may point to Matja Kezman's record in NL/Eng and say 'steer clear' others will look longinly at RVN (pervs) - either way it's impossible to tell until someone in the premiership gives him a chance.
For me, if we can get him for under 10m then I say let's take the risk - but at 13.7m (or whatever the bigwigs at de Kuyp are asking today) then I'd think about looking elsewhere.

Only joking, thanks for the post mate, good to get a local's perspectiveAt a football club there's a holy trinity- the players the manager and the supporters, Directors dont come into it, they are only there to sign the cheques " - Bill Shankly

Yep, it would seem that Gerrard is one of the few who may get to know. After reading the interview in TLW, Carra may be privvy to some info too.Originally posted by PLYOnj a side note , I would suspect that current players are not always the best source of information regarding transfers. They would often be left in the dark , especially if the new player is a potential replacement.
