Interesting. The rumours that we are close to signing him are probably bollocks. But I fail to see how we wouldn't be interested. Rafa's interest in him has been well documented since last summer so I am not sure he'd of dropped it so quickly.

I think the Kuyt deal will be done next week cos lf rafas going to sign someone hes going to have to do it soon otherwise he'll have no time to work with him before season starts! I would still prefere to see klose though!

I just can't see why there is all this hype about Kuyt - I think he's 26 years old tomorrow and yes, he's got a great games/goals ratio in the Dutch league over the past 4 or 5 seasons, but what really bothers me is that no other major clubs have been too interested in signing him, and at his age I would have thought that he would have been snapped up at least a couple of years ago. He's more or less the same age as Michael Owen.
How many of us who continually hype him up have actually seen him play on a regular basis? Not many I'd bet - were you really impressed with his showing in the WC? No, I for one will not be too disappointed if Rafa pulls the plug on the "deal" and turns his attention elsewhere.
Rafa was interested in Kuyt before we signed Morientes , so he definately holds an admiration , however the price then was around

But then again you could say the same about van nistelrooy, why were the scum the only big club to show interest in him?

I remember Taggart went mad when he was brought over cos he wasn't interested in him at first - it was some shady boardroom-led deal. I'm indifferent about Kuyt I must say - don't know enough about him and he looked crap at the WC.

Hi, I am an expat living in Utrecht where Dirk played before he moved to Feyenoord. I've seen him play about a hundred times.
He is not overly skilled or exceptional in physical charcteristics. He is a very good player here in the Eredivisie. He is determined and nearly always hits the target. He can score tap-ins, headers, shin-ins, volleys and the occasional screamer from outside the box.
He would not be good as a lone front man in a 451 but as part of a 442 (or 433 as the Dutch National side play) he could be very useful. Van Basten (Nederlands coach) rates him and considering that Van Basten is mentored by Johan Cruijff I give that evidence a lot of credence.
He is a cross between Shearer and Keegan. Both players without exceptional skill but with a passion and determination to succeed that made them maximise their talents. Also both players that needed a strike partner to get the best out of them.
Some may point to Matja Kezman's record in NL/Eng and say 'steer clear' others will look longinly at RVN (pervs) - either way it's impossible to tell until someone in the premiership gives him a chance.
For me, if we can get him for under 10m then I say let's take the risk - but at 13.7m (or whatever the bigwigs at de Kuyp are asking today) then I'd think about looking elsewhere.

What ....... a boring shite with a perm :D
Only joking, thanks for the post mate, good to get a local's perspective
Onj a side note , I would suspect that current players are not always the best source of information regarding transfers. They would often be left in the dark , especially if the new player is a potential replacement.
Yep, it would seem that Gerrard is one of the few who may get to know. After reading the interview in TLW, Carra may be privvy to some info too.
Or possibly he just talks to Gerrard :)

spurs, arsenal and chelsea were all linked and watch van horse before the mancs were even linked with him. i think wenger thought he had him as he went to watch him and was pictured over there and admitted his interest in him. i can't remember all the details right now as it was years ago, but Van Horse was a sort after player, bother in the UK and abroad as far as I rememeber.

I've seen him play quite a lot and i'd welcome him. Exactly a Rafa type player.
Also, who else was interested in Momo? Everton?!
Just because other clubs aren't interested in a player means nothing.

Judging by past experiences (Senegal!!), maybe Kuyt playing crap at the World Cup is a good thing!!
Thanks for the info..............have 5

Maybe so - he worked bloody hard at least. We'll have to trust Rafa on this one!

Agreed. I don't understand the hype myself. I don't want to be overly skeptical, because Rafa is obviously interested in the player but bar the occasional select video clips, he has never impressed me in the games that I have watched. It could be that I've just seen him in all his off days...but I don't know. I'm just not convinced...
