Brian Laudrup fighting cancer

Former Denmark international Brian Laudrup has revealed that he is battling cancer.

Laudrup, 41, announced on Tuesday afternoon that he is being treated for a mild case of lymphoma, although the condition is at an early stage.

The former Rangers, Bayern Munich, Fiorentina, Milan and Chelsea midfielder says doctors are "optimistic" about his condition but that he faces a "tough battle".

"I am obviously shocked by the diagnosis, but also know that there is now a tough battle ahead of me - a battle I will win,'' Laudrup told TV3. "Fortunately, I have had very optimistic reports from doctors to support me.

"I now want to use my energy to get over the shock and take time with my family and those closest to me, so together we can move forward after this diagnosis.''

Laudrup's news was communicated in a statement from broadcaster TV3 and he will continue in his work as a commentator for Champions League football.

They seem to have caught it early, which is good. I wish him the best of luck in his recovery

When Rafa was sacked and Houllier started babbling crap out it was his team that won the CL etc- he also claimed that a player text him saying 'he never beat you boss' there was a bit of a discussion on here about who it was.

'You just pick up little things, how they react in certain situations,' Carragher said. 'There were a lot of things happening at the World Cup and it was interesting to see how he dealt with pressure rather than from a football or tactical side.
'Capello�s a brilliant coach. You only have to look at his CV to appreciate that.'

Great to see some of the youngsters today.

Thought Sterling looked a class act -he's got a great turn of speed and the nutmeg on Baines was a classic. He nearly set up Gary Mac for a goal with a nice one two late on. I liked the direct approach of Amoo.

Flanagan at full back looked solid as did Andre Wisdom. I hadn't appreciated how tall Jon Jo Shelvey is -when he fills out he'll be a handful.

Keeper Brad Jones made 3 very good saves too- he is a big unit:)

Danny Murphy is still a class act and great passer.

I hope Roy uses some of the youngsters in the Carling Cup
