To be fair though who ever counts any signing on fee as part of transfer expenditure? Just doesn't happen. It's obvious you pay a big signing on fee for free transfers but that doesn't mean it should count, surely.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

i think the point is that its not as cut and dried as people think.
The club has a budget and i imagine that there is flexibility within that ie less wages means more signing on fees or transfer budget available.
Dunno, i've always assumed that as the signin-on fee is part of the transfer package, (just to the player, not the club) that it would come out of that transfer budget...never included the wages before tho, just assumed we would have a wage budget as well...

...think FM has a lot to answer for!!
I think it's often difficult to know what the signing on fee (and wages are) when you are discussing transfers 'traditionally' you only discuss the transfer fee. I think it's easier in making comparisons to just stick to transfer fees
Btw why do footballers get signing on fees, they get crazy wages as it is and get a signing on fee on top of that which is something like 6months to a years worth of wages. Why didn't I get that when I started a new job
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Granted, but when you're paying a player a chunky proportion of what would have been a tranfer fee, then I think it's a valid question.
If the question was a 5 million signing on fee then I certainly haven't seen or googled that
Plenty of links on Insua being pushed (I do know you can google a host of news stories on that )
Really?? I presumed Insua went because he had 1 year left on his contract and was making noises about not signing another one.
If with our current situation I'd be flabbergasted if we sold the only senior (and he's 21) left back we have because we 'pushed him out'.
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

Fact is, we don't know what Cole's signing on fee was, but it's more than it would have been if a transfer fee was paid. It would have to come out of the overall budget. I, like you have have seen between £4m and £6m mentioned on the internet. The transfer budget will be affected by this though.
Some more 'facts'.
Fact is, Benayoun's transfer fee was undisclosed. How do you know what it was.
Fact is, Insua has not left yet.
Fact is, you are speculating, just like everybody else.
whilst i dont agree with everything merlboo says i do think that we need to keep an eye on those running our club and I dont beleive we should trust them yet. Only events will say yes we should or no we shouldnt.
I agree that a few signings and the approach of a new season dont mean that we should forget all the crap.
its certainly an "interesting time" to be a Liverpool supporter.

i can't say i've seen any signing on fee so i'll hold council on that
your probably technically right at this present moment in time on Insua
though again it stands that Purslow has accepted the offer of 5 million pounds (if he moves or not )
maybe we won't ever know the full story on whether Roy wanted him or not
so to some point it is conjecture
what isn't beyond dispute at this present moment in time is we've got a negative net spend and have had one for the last 4 transfer windows
