Owen and England

    Owen and England

    I know this has been mentioned before that he seems to pop up in the media everytime there is an England International....just so they dont forget him but ive just seen on SSN that he was with the England squad for the kit launch.

    Now he's been out for a very long time and might not play for the rest of the season but what gives him the right or how does he merit been treated as a member of the squad even though he has'nt played at all. I find this strange that he should be in the Kit launch, it should be just the members of the current squad that do the kit launch. It seems a given that hes in the England team when he returns

    I know he's Umbros golden child but it should really be member's of the current Squad he has to get past Rooney,Defoe,Bent and Crouch before he can think of starting for England IMO

      The guy's picked up a bad injury, it's probably just a way of keeping him involved and a morale boost.

        Would the same be done for a player deemed less important the Owen?

          Owen was a truly sensational footballer in 2001, European footballer of the year, in fact.

          It's been a gradual and sad demise since then, I genuinely cant see the lad reaching anything like the heights he once hit, he's no where near the player he once was, injury after injury has taken its toll.

          Shame.

              It's all about money. Owen is still one of the biggest names so they use him as much as they can to keep him in the spotlight.

              I don't think the FA have anything to say when it comes down to who will be there.

              I really don't care but if you want an answer then it would be yes because Owen will play for England again next season in that shirt when he is fit again.
              Just believe and you never know what will happen.

              According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

                Umbro is not going to let Owen sit on the side when it comes to adverts. Has nothing to do with who is going to be on the pitch. At least for now. Owen may not have many fans here, but he does have a lot of them worldwide. I was not suprised to see him there, but expecting him. He sells shirts.

                  Umbro have to try and get some mileage out of the millions they pay Owen a year!

                    As for whether or not a less important player would have been called up? Dunno, Hargreves was called up even though he'd only just comeback from injury, Terry was included on the same basis. But then again Dyer, Woodgate etc have been left out for ages and they have been continually injured.

                        He's one of England's most high profile players, and it's only a bloody kit launch. I don't see the problem.

                            Its Englands Kit Lanuch which he hasnt been apart of for months and may not be for the rest of the season. They could pick others in the squad which have as much impact on the footballing world these days
