The recent aquisition of the 2 Hungarian lads reminded me of something that has bugged me for years. What ever happened to Hungarian football? When you consider that I think they reached 2 WC finals and were incredibly unlucky not to have won one of them. Honved were considered to be the best team in the world in the mid fifties.
The kicked our (Englands) arse 6-3 & 7-1 in the space of a year. In Puskas, Hidekguti and Czibor they had three of the world's greatest ever players. Even up to the 60s and 70s the had Ferencvaros who turned us over at Anfield(one of the first teams ever to do so) and reached a couple of big Euro finals.
They never even produce the odd great player that other unfashionable/ smaller countries do like Giggs, Best, Krankl, Boniek, Hagi, Berbatov, Kinkladze etc. They now rank alongside the total no hopers of World football. Never has a nation with their history fell so far down the ladder.
Although I do remember one decent player in the 90s but cant remember his name. Midfielder I think and very skilful. Admittedly this thread ain't exactly hot topic material I know but I just wondered if anyone could enlighten me. Maybe some of our Hungarian mates could give us their thoughts
