Totally agree! While I don't rate N'Gog very highly, at least he offers regular glimpses of what he can do - whether it be a great peice of skill, a good finish, or a good bit of movement.

The only good thing i've seen Carroll do since he arrived is a single good strike (Man City).

He was doing fine actually, at the start of the season when we needed him he was our top scorer for a while and that was despite being a lone striker at times.

Like dww said he's only 22. Considering he is always a substitute I think he's done pretty well. We have to keep him, he's a good back-up striker

Im not sure if he does lack confidence. If he does then he just need a bit of support as he is still very young. He certainly plays with a smile on his face and always seems happy and enthusiastic.

He did score a great header in that game too.

This is how I see it. He always seems very meek.

I am yet to be convinced with Carol. It's hard to have a discussion about him without thinking about the price tag, albeit thats not his fault.....I am hoping that the quality from Downing will provide him the service for him to really push on and become the great player people think he can become.

This is the reason I feel that we have persued Downing the way we have.

I don't want to take anything away from him (because I cheered like a mutha ****er when he did it), but i'm not convinced it was that great a header. He didn't know all that much about it really. Considering his height and build, i've yet to see him impress in the air as yet, and barely remember him having any headers at goal ... although I do acknowledge that our delivery into the box isn't that great!

Hopefully, Downing will bring the best out in him - i really hope it does, but I just don't see it, i'm afraid.

Let's be optimistic. Let him get fit, have a run of games, and a bit of luck, then judge him

Carroll is still developing as a player. We've had glimpses of what he is capable of. Like when he played against us earlier in the season. Even though we knew what Newcastle were going to do, we couldn't stop it from happening.

He has the potential to be unplayable. That's what we have paid the money for. He needs to get a run of consistant, competitive games under his belt and I'm sure we'll see him develop. He has all the attributes. Kenny and the rest of the coaching staff need time to help him put it all together. And when that happens, we could have a very special player on our hands.

Of course, there's always a chance that won't happen. But there's no such thing as a sure thing in football. Take Torres at Chelsea.

Let's be patient with Carroll. As Dalglish has said on a number of occasions, we signed him for 5 years. Last year he played for us coming off the back of a bad injury with 35 million pounds of expectation on his shoulders. Let's do ourselves a favour and give the guy the best possible chance of succeeding by getting behind him and giving him the support he needs.

Utd have Welback, Macheda, Obertan and Owen as fourth choice strikers. I think he's at least as useful as any of those. He's never going to be the new Henry but you can't keep four top quality strikers happy and he's not a bad option imo. He's also cheap.

Too inconsistent and has the tendency to miss the easy goal scoring chances too often.

This summer's Voronin. Probably the best thing for us as Sunderland may now seriously pursue him watching our pre-season games.

Ngog was our first choice striker for a large chunk of last season. What chance of him improving his confidence now that he'll only be 4th choice? Very little.

It's nothing like the Voronin situation

Its everything like the Voronin situation. Why do you think it isn't?

Because Voronin was old and utterly ****. Whereas Ngog is young and decent and would actually make us a big profit if we sold him

                                Voronin= Jovanovic
