Hey guys,
Some of you may have seen a bit about this lad on SSN. I first heard of it about 2 weeks ago when I went for a drink with my mate who plays for a local team.
Basically this lad, Jake Cassidy has signed for Wolves this week on a 2 year deal. He'd been playing for a local men's team near where I live, Llandudno Junction. Airbus FC signed him towards the tail end of last year, they're a semi-pro team in the League of Wales and now Wolves have signed up this week.
Remarakble all the same isn't it, some year for the lad. I've only seen him play once and that was in a local derby last year. He played well and lots of the locals were raving about him saying that he's going to be a class player when he's older. I've also seen his old man play on a number of occasions and he was a goal machine when he was younger.
Congratulations to lad, hope he goes on and does well for Wolves but mainly for Wales!!
Here's a little snippet about him below.
A TEENAGE soccer ace has landed a dream move from the third tier of Welsh football to the Premier League.
Jake Cassidy (in green) playing for Llandudno Junctions
New Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Jake Cassidy, 17, spent last season rattling in goals for amateurs Llandudno Junction in the Welsh Alliance League.
This term he had expected to be turning out for semi-pro Airbus UK, in Wales’ top flight, after transferring there earlier in the summer. But an impressive pre-season saw Wolves manager Mick McCarthy swoop for the hotshot, and he has now gone from getting his bus fare paid in Llandudno, to signing a lucrative contract at Molineux.
Last night the boss of his former club praised the teenage wonderkid.
“He is a strong lad and a good player,” said Llandudno Junction chairman Simon Wright.
“He is a lovely young man, and loves his football. He was playing for the first team on a Saturday and banging goals in, then doing the same for the youth team on a Sunday.
“We are just a community club, we pay blokes a little bit for travelling expenses, but that’s all.
Simon knew his talented teen forward had attracted interest from bigger clubs, and he thinks Jake will go from strength to strength with McCarthy’s team.
“I knew Airbus were coming in for him towards the end of last season, which I thought was brilliant,” he said.
“I wished him well and told him not to forget where he started.
“But he has only pre-seasoned with Airbus, he hasn’t played a game in the league for them before this. Wolves can obviously see the potential in him.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if in a couple of years he is in the first team and playing for Wales. It is fantastic for him that he has gone to Wolves.”
The striker notched 28 goals in 32 games last season for the north Wales club. In recent weeks, he bagged seven goals in seven pre-season friendlies for Airbus, including strikes against Wrexham and Everton.
His rapid rise through the football ranks will delight his Wolves fan dad Chris, who also played for Llandudno Junction.
“His dad was an ex-player, he played up front just like Jake,” added Simon.
“He was a poacher as well. He retired through injuries but he is made up because he is a Wolves fan
