I mean come on...people go on as though he's some sort of Mr Bean figure at the back, making comical foul-ups every five minutes. He's no Maldini, but (when in-form) his attacking threat negates his defensive deficiencies.

When someone say x player is ****e, such as Konchesky, they mean ****e by the standards off top class footballers. They'd still be best player in the local park. It's fine margins. Johnson's reputation comes mainly from probably a dozen incidents in a hundred games, but the standards need to be so high.

GJ as left back is just not working out (cannot say that I am surprised) so even though Warnock is not really the solution for our LB woes he may be decent option for the remainder of the year.

Johnson has done nothing wrong there in the last 2 games though. In what way is it not working out? All the times we have been exposed in those 2 games it because the opposition attacked the our right, not our left.

Well we've covered this before . I think we can agree that in him we have a player who isn't as solid at the back as we would like. Personally, I think he can defend and knows what to do, but makes too many mistakes/poor decisions, especially when faced with a wide player with a bit or trickery. Think this is why it gets most exposed in International football imo.

Wouldnt disagree. We all know he isnt Maldini, but his real level is nowhere near as bad as some make out.

Yeah obviously. But Konchesky is ****e...really ****e. Johnson is a miles better defender than him. People talk about Johnson being a liability and I really don't see it. He's not perfect, he makes some mistakes, but he's not the calamity that is often implied IMO.

I didn't say he did anything wrong but he is struggling to keep the line, looked extremely awkward and uncomfortable defending, positioning wasn't great neither. His offensive skills are very limited on that side as he cannot properly cross with his left foot (one ok cross today) and he is forced to cut in as he cannot hug the left line going forward.

We were lucky that neither Everton nor Wolves have a proper winger on left as he could have been easily exploited.

I still think he is much, much better as RB and today's game did show that Kelly should be brought in slowly.

Think it was the opening match of the 2003 season. Chelsea won 2-1, Hasslebaink got the winner. I think anyway.

I was there that day, Diouf was playing very well at the time. But...

He doesn't have the positional sense, the intelligence and the discipline to be a good DEFENDER.
