I thought the issue with high wages wasn't the cost but not paying high wages to players who aren't playing or aren't seen as providing value for money. I guess that Johnson will probably be the first test of where the line is. IMO he is an important player but isn't seen as a star so it will be interesting to what the owners views are...

There is also the suggestion that has been lingering around that he wants to play abroad

Considering the fees being mentioned for Baines and even Skrtel, you’d like to think he’d be worth slightly more than that, although I doubt many teams would pay it. Regardless, his value to the team for another year could be worth more than £10m, even if we do let him go on a free, especially if we qualify for CL.

It'd be good to keep him. Class player. But I'm not sure FSG will be offering the same terms that he's on now (if it's true that he's on £100k per week).

I thought it was about £135k+ per week and that he'll have to take a pay cut to sign a new deal.

Can't see it happening sadly, so I'd be happy to let him run his contract down if he wants to move abroad at the end of it.
