If the injury situation is true, then it explains it all for me. He was a top player for us last year and just behind Zabaleta for me in the right back stakes in this league. Overpaid for sure but we should be re-signing him on a long term deal for less cash.Originally posted by danperkins View PostWouldn't lose any sleep if Johnson went.. once we got decent wedge for him.

Too late for that now.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostTake back what I said about Johnson. Fair play for battling on for the team when injured. I'm glad there's a reasonable explanation for it.
Bloody hell you're a hard man Shaggy, having a go at Glen when all this time he's been struggling with numerous injuries, playing with pain and generally being an all round good egg and a player fighting for his life for the cause.
Shame. On. You!.

the more i think about it - the more annoyed i am
Why the **** haven't signed a good full back is beyond me.
for months we've(the club/committee/manager/owners) known
1 - Johnson has been carrying injuries/struggling
2 - enrique has been long term injury and will take time to get back
3 - cissokho clearly isn't up to the level required, certainly not playing every week for a team trying to get top 4
4 - there are clear issues with kelly....does anyone out there believe we could rely on Martin Kelly to play 5 consecutive games? cause i am one of his biggest fans but i'd be shocked if managed that
5 - our emergency almost forgotten full back, Flannagan, gets injured as well
why the **** haven't we signed a couple of full backs.
**** it - i've watched them a few times.....sign that hull right back elhamody or whatever and mikel alonso from sunderland for left back...we might have to overpay, but we'd get the pair for £15m tops
ok.....so they might not be world beaters.....but we're struggling to sign world beaters.....and if we don't get anyone we could have some real issuesi own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do

So he has been playing through injuries.
Its showing up the paucity of resources in the squad - if LFC are going to challenge, the squad is too thin. More investment needed, in quality rather than quantity. Fed up of short term loan options, weak squad players and "ones for the future"
Get signing quality, FSG, Ian Ayre, transfer committee, whoever! I don't care who does it!

I'd let him go but only we have to find a quality signing first.

Glen Johnson contract a priority for Liverpool, says Brendan Rodgers
Speculation had mounted surrounding Johnson’s future after the England international admitted his eagerness to get a new deal sorted earlier this month.
Johnson’s current deal expires in summer 2015.
Over the weekend, the 29-year-old former Chelsea and Portsmouth defender was linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Rodgers had told press at his pre-Sunderland press conference earlier on Monday that there would be no talk of new contracts for players or staff until the season was over.
But, speaking to the Liverpool Echo on Monday night, Rodgers revealed that he has every intuition of sorting out Johnson’s future, although the actual negotiations won’t take place until the summer.
“We want to keep Glen here,” Rodgers said.
“There is no question about that, especially now he’s in this form. He’s 29 and we feel that he has still got good years ahead of him.
“No contracts will be looked at until the summer but his will be a priority for us, especially if he continues in the form that he’s in.”
Rodgers added that he does not believe Johnson’s high wages, estimated to be around £110,000, would be a stumbling block in the club offering him a new deal.
“It just means you just have to sit, debate and discuss what’s best for the club and the player,” Rodgers added.
“The beauty of this is we want to keep Glen and Glen loves it here. We just need to find a solution which is good for both.
“If we can do that then the club will have a very good player for years to come.
“We have other players like young Jon Flanagan who only has one year left, while Jordan Henderson only has two years left. They have been great and we want to look at those contracts.
“That’s something that will be for the summer. The players can do themselves no harm by continuing to play in the form they are in. The club will then take a close look at it.”
Johnson was signed from Portsmouth by Rafa Benitez in 2009 as a replacement for right-back Alvaro Arbeloa.
