He doesn't get beaten very often, but tbf that's because he's still on his way back from the attacking third while the opposition LW is putting balls in or tearing into our box. I'm glad we have him, but not sure he's ever kept a top class winger quiet like Finnan/Arbeloa used to do.
    all fair points.

I'm of the opinion that a defender first and foremost should be able to defend, everything else after that is a bonus. Johnson never had a problem with the attacking side of his game, although after a barn storming start to his LFC career it did ease off. But his defending was shocking at times, but under Kenny he seems a much more solid defender, no messing about, no nonsense.

But as you said against a top class winger he hasn' t looked great, but hopefully Kenny & Clarke can shore that side of his game up

Horses for courses, 95% of the games we play in a season wont be against a top class winger anway. He's kind of like the anti-JS Park, he can play every game except the big ones lol

Personally on current form, I think Glen is the best in his position in the Premiership, certainly I cannot think of an English right back who is his equal. The team as a whole defended poorly whilst trying to implement Roy's rigid 4-4-2 and Glen was apportioned much more blame than was merited.

Under Kenny his form has kicked on again and I am sure Clarke has played a massive part in this. Glen will be vital in our title winning team next year.

Not trying to be contentious or anything but I really can't recall him not looking great against a top class winger. Who do you have in mind and is there more than one such player he hasn't looked great against?

All I can gather from this thread is that Rudo thinks Aaron Hughes is better than Glen Johnson......................

he didnt have a great start for us to put it mildly but he seems to becoming what we signed a good attacking fullback.

lets see how he develops under Kenny and clarke.

Look at other players and how their game has kicked on.

How long has he left on his contract? 2 or 3 years?

If it's 2 then surely we need to do something about it during the summer.

Eriksen was top class that game. Shame he's happy enough at Ajax for now.

The first sign of disagreement or a bit of harmless joking/banter, and threads get closed. It'd be good to remember that it's a largely banter-based environment here. I doubt anyone genuinely gets a kick out of the 'power' but it can come across that way at times.

I've been on the receiving end of a heavy-handed Mod recently by expressing a similar opinion. And the Mod in question wasn't Neil.

I think I have an issue with this.

We consistently receive complaints about lack of moderating action with regards to various members and their consistent disputes on this board as opposed to over action. Quite frankly you'd think a group of fairly literate and intelligent adults should be capable of sorting out many of these issues among themselves a lot more than they do. We've always tried to maintain a philosophy of being as open to as many people as possible without opinion-based prejudice*, and have given numerous people repeated chances to avoid or redeem bans, far more than virtually any other moderated website I know. People will always have individual disagreements with individual decisions, but to see the moderating on this forum as generally heavy-handed seems pretty ridiculous from where I sit.

If there was a little more general responsibility shown by certain posters to avoid personal attacks, petty squabbling and stupid amounts of spam in this part of the forum then we will all have a much more pleasant summer on here, I know that for sure, and I'm also sure the mods would just somehow manage to contain their collective lust for power.

With the hope that a sincere opinion will be accepted and not cause a negative reaction, i dont think the general moderating on the site is heavy-handed at all. I have noticed, in my own humble opinion, that more often than not, it's one mod in particular who just seems a little too keen to step in and 'take control' where sometimes, the situation is mild and such action isnt really needed. I can also see, however, that mild situations often escalate and that to avoid this, early action can often seem like the best solution.

I dont doubt that there's a 'cant win' scenario for moderating, and i sympathise with that. Re the point about 'a group of fairly literate and intelligent adults should be capable of sorting out many of these issues among themselves' - i agree with this, and it's possible that such issues COULD be sorted out by those involved, but there's no chance of that because threads sometimes seem to get locked within a nanosecond of someone disagreeing

As i say, it's not an easy task and i'm certainly not having a go or anything of such ilk, but merely just expressing my own viewpoint from where i'm standing. I dont think there's a major problem, but i think sometimes things could benefit if there was just a slight tweak in how certain situations are seen and dealt with.
