Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Yep well done Stevie you deserve it. No matter what the cynics say it is recognition for making a contribution to making peoples lives better, and that he has done many times.

The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry established on 4 June 1917 by King George V. The Order includes five classes in civil and military divisions; in decreasing order of seniority, these are

Knight Grand Cross or Dame Grand Cross (GBE)
Knight Commander or Dame Commander (KBE or DBE)
            Commander (CBE)
            Officer (OBE)
            Member (MBE)

Only the two highest ranks entail admission into knighthood allowing the receiver to use the title 'Sir' (male) or 'Dame' (female) before one's name, such as Sir Clive Woodward who is a KBE.

Make of that what you will.

FFS, people moan that other people in football get recognised ahead of LFC players, managers and officials and then when one of ours does get recognised, this is the reaction!

We can't have it both ways chaps.
Are you the Judean People's Front?

Well to be fair it IS wrong both ways. Awards shouldn't be given to sportsmen etc just for a bit of good PR for the royals and government, but if they are going to give them for this kind of thing they should at least be consistant.

I've never once had a moan about other people in football being recognised in the honours list.

It's a big bag of bollocks.

Bit off topic like but never heard of GBE, any examples?

Since you seem well up on this subject what qualifies someone for a GBE rather than a KBE?

GBE ranks higher than KBE. There can only be 100 GBE's at any time. While there can be up to 845 KBE's.

It's all about who has done more for the crown and Britain. Not sure exactly why someone would be raised to a GBE though.

                              Oh right.

So you are the only one with an opinion then.

You are right that they should be consistent, but are you saying that compared to other footballers who have an MBE, SG is undeserving?

I must admit, off the top of my head I'm not aware of any current players who are an MBE. I'm just being lazy and not typing google!
