    Short Alonso Interview

    eurosport.com

Liverpool star Xabi Alonso has told eurosport.com that he is happy at Anfield despite being linked with a move to Atletico Madrid.

The classy playmaker is fully focused on the challenges ahead for the Merseysiders and refusing to become distracted by the speculation in the Spanish media.

After helping Rafa Benitez's Reds rise to third in the Premiership table with a convincing 3-0 win against Bolton Wanderers, the midfielder is keen for the team to push on in 2007.

"I do not speak about the rumours of my return to Spain," he informed eurosport.com.

"I have a contract signed with the Reds and I am happy at this club.

"Now Liverpool are playing to our best level of the season. This is perfect for the beginning of the year with the next big challenges.

"To get to third place is very important for morale for us after the problems in the first months of the league. Now our objective is to consolidate the effort.

"The FA Cup match against Arsenal will not be easy but we have the advantage of playing at home - a key question in this competition.

"A good match and triumph against the Gunners will provide an injection of confidence for the Champions League game with Barcelona.

"Liverpool are not really worried about Barcelona because the knockout games are very far away.

"Our objectives are to win matches and continue to progress in all the competitions."

Yes very boring, but only because we have heard it often before.

Rafas mindset being instilled in the players.

The wording sounds a bit odd, calling us the reds, and arsenal the gunners for instance.
