I think that has more to do with Hyypia's ever-waning pace than our team's defensive strategyOriginally posted by vlahka View PostDont get snarky mate
I meant if Chelsea decide to sit back and just counter attack, we're pretty much gone. Our defense isnt the fastest and with their love of zonal marking its very easy for someone to get past them. How many times have we seen Hyypia or someone just raise their hand for offside and not bother running after someone when they were actually onside? I hope the entire team doesnt push forward like usual and leave us totally exposed.

Which are the quickest counterattacking teams in the Premiership?Originally posted by Mattshark View PostYes but our defence is very rarely exposed like that, even without pace, hence we concede so few goals.
Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea.
Which teams do we have the worst records against in the Premership?
Er....
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

I think we under Rafa have the best defensive record in the league from set pieces. Yet some pundits would have you believe that our zonal marking is a liability, when it is actually one of our strengths.Originally posted by vlahka View PostDont get snarky mate

Well, that hardly yields enough data to go on, does it? All the same, of those three teams we've played only one at Anfield this season and we know what happened then.Originally posted by Mattshark View PostI was refering to this season.
The point is that all three of these teams can afford to sit back and try to pick us off on the counter, especially when they're away and the onus is on LFC to take the game to them. The fact that they often win without relying on counterattacks merely suggests that they have more than one way to win a game which is what makes them so dangerous..

acording to sky football is only 14 years old...Originally posted by enema of the state View Posti guessed that - but football was played for quite some time before august 2006. Some of the current lfc team were even playing way back in those historical days."I have decided to escape, to defy the shogun. Today I will begin walking the road to hell. But you will choose your own path. So, soon you may be seeing heaven. Choose the sword, and you will join me. Choose the ball and you join your mother, in death. You don’t understand my words, but you must choose. So… come boy, choose life or death."

I probably should of added I think our zonal defending is just fine and our defending is great. But against certain teams, specifically ones like Arsenal, Chelsea and UTD, we should probably not go for zonal. Adapt to them because with their counter attacking style and fast players, we generally always seem to come off second best.Originally posted by bazza76 View PostI think we under Rafa have the best defensive record in the league from set pieces. its a semantic argument only. zonal or man to man only determines what starting positions you take up. At the end of the day, If a defender reads the flight of the ball, runs quickly, jumps well and clears it then the situation is defended. its possible to do those things from either set up.
what determines how good any defence is is how well the individuals execute those techniques - not which set up the coach tells them to start from.drunk knows best

Really? I'd have thought it's more than mere semantics but then I'm no expert.Originally posted by enema of the state View Post
