We started our season poorly because we had so many new players bedding in and most of them were not adapted to the club or the pace of the premiership. United had the more settled side.

Rotation is a necessary evil and I don't understand there are still people questioning that once again. We'll be judged by the end of the season, not by end of January on the fact we're 11 points off the top.

A contributing factor could be that our competitive season started earlier that the Mancs
"With Ron Yeats in defence, we could play Arthur Askey in goal."

Nah we were just crap away from home - add in two home games drawn when we should have won we would only 2 points behind Chelsea. They had enough time to bed in over the summer break therefore should have been firing ready to go.

Rafa screwed up at the begining of the season - no excuses and the team played like crap - no excuses.

Hopefully we are running into form at the right time........................

There are many other reasons they are on top.

Ferguson has had pretty much the same team now for 3 seasons.

He said in an interview that they had been lucky with injuries.

If you look only at the league they have rotated similarly.

So these are some of the reasons they had a flying start and that is the difference between the teams now.

So IMO the difference between the teams has nothing to do with rotation.

05/06 we played for almost a year and all our major players were either injured or off-form having been to the World Cup. Man United had a shorter season and some of their key players didn't go to the World Cup (e.g. Scholes and Giggs who have both been very good all season long) or were injured before it and hence have had a rest (i.e. Rooney).

If you're going to make comparisons you have to take all possible relevant factors into account.
            .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Utd finished 2nd last season so didn't have to play the CL qualifyer plus their first 3 matches were a dream - Fulham (H), Watford (A) and Charlton (A).....I'd expect even us to get 9/9 points out of that little lot and get us and our confidence off to a flier - I wonder if Fergie had a word with someone in charge of the fixture computer at the FA...

How the hell do you get used to a new league over the summer?
It takes longer than that to adjust to a new style of player never mind another country.

I think in Saturday's program it showed that Chelsea had used more players than us (both to start and to have played at any time).

I suspect the fuss was just a **** point about us changing every game. However, IMO, you should always select the best players for the team you're about to face (hence Crouch, not Bellamy, on Saturday)

newcastle for one has been through some 20 odd back 4 formations this season

Rotation has been around for ages...

Rotation can be really nasty though, like a vicious circle...

Rotation is brilliant when were winning and the worst thing when we are losing

I agree. It's become a popular thing for the assembled ****cocks on Soccer Saturday to bleat about, as if Rafa always rotates the squad and no-one else does.
