Taken from YNWA:
"My mate in San Jose reckons she's seen a news item today saying the pair intend to market the club heavily stateside starting with target audiences of Hispanics and kids and going on from there - it went on to say something about looking into LFC going over there to Memphis and Florida now and again for exhibition matches/mini-tornaments to further raise the profile."
Seems a good idea, especially with the whole Beckham thing going on at the moment. With the growing amount of Hispanics in America, if these guys can make Liverpool FC synonymous with "Soccer" then we could be on to a very big thing in a few years time. And there are other things that could help this. I'm thinking of us already having academies in the US, an ex-player (Nicol) managing a team out there and our shirts could well be sold and publicised in the prospective owners baseball and hockey club shops.
One other thing, they had a couple of American journos on SSN this morning saying how Hicks seems to care about the community, giving money to the area and investing in Arts campaigns etc, and the other day Canadian journos were saying how liked Gillet is by fans, chatting to them before games for example.
I hope I'm not speaking too soon, but these guys don't seem the anti-christ that they first appeared to some. Gillet seems a decent owner, and Hicks seems to have a decent business brain. And I'm fairly confident they'll keep Parry on as they obviously don't know too much about the intricacies of football or Liverpool as a city. Whatever success they've acheived with their clubs is largely irrelevant - that's down to Rafa. And as long as they back him while running the club well and improving our massive marketing potential, I'm sure Rafa will be successful.
Wasn't it Shankly who said that Chairmen were only there to sign the cheques? If these guys can put us in a position to be able to do this ultimately through our own profitablity then there could be good times ahead.Last edited by baronvonskidmark; 03-02-07, 12:00 PM.
