    Don`t move the goalposts SYD.
As i've pointed out twice now, THIS thread is about gerrard beginning to make a habit of it, and relates to the bigger picture, contained within that point.

The other thread is solely about today.

    Dont confuse threads Queeny

But Gerrard's starting to develop a habit for going down easily in the box, and it's going to gain him an unwanted (and damaging) reputation, unless it stops soon.

If it carries on, he'll end up not being given legit pens, because his reputation will preceed him.

      Take this:

Look at the fourth and third angles, especially. No contact at all. Embarrassing.

I know this will go against the grain, and abuse me if it makes you feel better - but this is not on. If today's pen and the bolton one had been given against us, we'd be livid.
The crux of your point is wrong though. Ronaldo has shown that there is no downisde to diving. You are never punished so why give up the advantage to another team who is going to milk it for all they can. That'd be unprofessional.

A moral conundrum. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

        Are you for real?

Football is a contact sport, always has been.

You must be pulling my leg, i thought everyone knew that.

So Gerrard IS as fragile as a kitten then, and COULDNT keep himself on his feet, no matter how HARD he tried? Is that what you think?
No but the fact still remains that SG alerted the Ref to the grapling from the defender, the defender wiped his nose on his shirt and then put his arm around SG again, that`s not defending, that`s wrestling.

Not sure about your Ronaldo point, i'd be very surprised if he's been awarded a pen EVERYTIME he's been fouled in the box.

On a more wider point, you're surely not disagreeing that players can earn reputations which can cost them in future, are you?

I think your description is somewhat exaggerated. The defender was daft, sure. But IMO, it wasnt enough to either warrant a pen, nor was it enough to take Gerrard off his feet. I dont think it's right for players to go down when they're able to stay on their feet, because it's implying that the contact was what took them off their feet, when it isnt the case.

You say diving is never punished and point to Ronaldo as evidence. I'm saying there's probably been times where he's been fouled in the box, but because the ref has seen him dive before, he's assumed that he's gone down easily again, and therefore not given him the pen.

Simple enough to understand, or so i thought.

Would anyone have liked Stevie to stay on his feet in the champions League final?....

                        I didn't think so lol.
You have to take every advantage that comes you way, if reasonable contact is made in the box, he is right to go over. We need to take every advantage we can take.
And as asnothe rposter said, until Fifa clamp doen on it, continue the good work Stevie lad.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

                        * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

if that was the case he`d get a yellow for blatant diving,no?

I should have chosen my words better. What I meant to say was that he dives and gets more penalties than are denied him. Hence, diving is a good bet.
