I don't know what the controversy is about. If it had been in open play in front of the ref then I think most people would have been screaming for a penalty and had he been the last man then a red card too.
Just because it's a corner defenders seem to think they have the right to man-handle forwards.Originally posted by Gordon Brown

Except, neither Henry nor Giggs were examples of 'breaking' the rules.Originally posted by Kronenburg1892 View PostI saw it as playing the rules, like Henry picking up a Gerrard backpass from an offside position last year at the Emirates. Or Gigs waiting for the ref whistle in Lille.
Rules are written to be broken.
Not saying Gerrard's was either, he chanced it and the ref swallowed it.
Gerrard could've stayed on his feet though, but chose to go down. I dont like that.

AFIK, LFC are ahead in the fair play tables in this league. Personaly I agree with you DJS, but these days teams have to play the ref, which is the weakness in premiership rules.Originally posted by DJS View PostGerrard could've stayed on his feet though, but chose to go down. I dont like that.
I don't have an answer for fair play across the board. But I have to admit to appreciating stretching of rules in a creative way. Like that corner we took, but the officials failed to see the subtlety of tapping the ball and walking away.

In their haste to quickly shoot down a contrary view and prove what a 'die-hard fan' they are, people are missing the point which i was making, and which is the reason why i didnt like seeing yesterday's incident with the pen.Originally posted by Kronenburg1892 View PostAFIK, LFC are ahead in the fair play tables in this league. When things like this happen, the media highlight it and consciously or otherwise, people start to form a perception of a player. Eventually, if this escalates, a player will gain an unwanted reputation, which can often stop him being given decisions which he should get.
I dont wish for Gerrard to end up in this category because it could potential harm LFC.

No offence ron mate, but if i DID attach much value to 'winding people up' (or in layman's terms, apparently daring to have a different opinion to them), i'd do it to people i gave a **** about.
So dont worry, you're safe.

well said
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'
"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.
* After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs
