I have decided against the 3 day stocking up plan and have bought a loaf of thick white bread for 69 pence. I have already munched 3 dry slices, time for some buttered toast action.
makes no difference if stevie went down easy or not, that sheepshagger had his arms wrapped around him. funny thing is that had we drew that game 0-0 half you ****s would be cryin we should of had a pen. get over it

This is true.
For me, it wasnt a penalty but I dont give a ****. If he did the same thing to win us the European Cup 1-0 against United in the last minute, Id ****in howl laughing more than I would if we beat them 8-0.
Bill Oddie, Bill Oddie, put your hands all over my body.
If that was Ronaldo/Drogba we would be crucifying them, really poor player by the skipper.. i thought Kozluk was merely doing what every player does in the box defending a set piece, trying to hold their marker off, he wasn't particular aggressive or anything but Gerrard made sure the ref saw him
and went down very, very easily imo.
Good play on Gerrard's part you can say but it left a bad taste in my mouth.
How can anyone even have any doubts about the decision? He was literally hugging him ffs!
The defender only has himself to blame as the ref is clearly looking at him but he still tries to give our skipper a loving embrace which was duly declined!

'Football is a simple game based on the giving and taking of passes, of controlling the ball and of making yourself available to receive a pass. It is terribly simple.'
OK I see what you're saying about trying to stay on his feet, but Stevie couldn't have played for a penalty if the defender hadn't fouled him. If he had attacked the ball but arrived late and headed it over or wide would you then be happy with him? He probably wouldn't have got the penalty because the ref would have "played advantage". If someone fouls you in the box, you've every right to go down for a penalty in my opinion. The problem isn't with Stevie, the problem is with the fact that defenders get away with fouling at corner kicks too often and then only way to highlight it is to go down when you're fouled.
IMO what you are saying there puts into words everything that is going wrong in our beautiful game. That you for some reason have a right to point out to the ref that you have been fouled by dropping to the ground.
Because the thing is that the rules say nothing about whether or not the players attempt to foul his opponent has any effect. It is still a foul. So what has become an unwritten rule, if a may put it that way, is that you play on if your opponents attempts to foul you do not effect your play.
What we started seeing some years ago was players, particularly in Italy it seemed, started to throw them selves to the ground, more often then not screaming in pain, to try to affect the outcome of the game. This was widely disliked. In recent times it seems that it is even a players job to try to get a penalty or a freekick and it becoming " a part of the game "
What we saw Gerrard do on Saturday was taking an opportunity to lure the defender into a trap. It worked and the ref had no choice.
What else could he have done you may ask.
Well IMO what he should have done is he should have continued his run despite the arm being out. In all likelihood the defender would have done his best to mark Gerrard in a legal way, or kept his arm out and fouled him in which case the ref would have given a penalty.
What Gerrard did had nothing to do with football and everything to do with dishonest conduct that is ruining the game that we love.
yes it is, the most beautiful sport in the world. when it stops being beautifull, i stop watching...
