I know this has probably been done to death but do we OFFICIALLY own him? I know it was mooted we would loan him for 18 months, however reports are suggesting we paid £1.5m to SIGN him for 18 months. If that is the case am I right in saying Kia no longer own him at all?

I think bottom line is Marcus that no one exactly knows. This is a deal shrouded in mystery as far as Im concerned. We all know there are no problems with it now, but a lack of official press releases regarding this deal mean we could be waiting a while until we know the ins and outs of this.Originally posted by marcus50bucks View PostI know this has probably been done to death but do we OFFICIALLY own him? As far as Im aware hes on an 18 month loan deal, I just dont know who from. If hes a success we have an option to get him on a permanent basis for a substantial fee.Forwards.......

Not a clue mate. But apparently he has a buy back option, but would that mean we own him?
Hopefully the Echo will clarify it at some stage.Forwards.......

Yes, due to the legalities of 3rd party ownership, we had to buy him rather than loan him, so the way it's worked out is we turned the 18 month loan into an 18 month contract and paid £1.5M for that to happen.Originally posted by Redlife View PostSo Kia Whatsisname's company do still own him?

We then have 1st option to turn that into a permanent move, and that is where the differing amounts come in, £10, £17M etc, or we can just let him go.
A win-win all round.

We own him, we had to to prevent further legal problems in 3rd party ownership.Originally posted by DannyMan2006 View PostAny idea who owns him at present? Is it West Ham?
But we don't have full details of the contract, so it will prob say something like "ownership" reverts to Kia's Co after 18 months, but we have 1st option to make that a permanent deal in the meantime, so there is no problem in waiting right to the last minute for instance.

No - he's not on loan.Originally posted by DannyMan2006 View PostCheers mate. Of course if hes on loan do we actually own him though?
Im confused still, lol! I'll go sit in a corner......
Sorry if I'm not making it clear, but while he was at west ham - they didn't own him, they had his registration, but not ownership (god, it sounds awful, as if a peice of furniture!! But Rafa like living room furnishings doesn't he??)
So, as WHU only held his registration, but didn't own him, our proposed loan deal ended up taking it's time, due to 3rd party ownership legality rules. The way round it was as above, buy the loan deal outright, so we now own his registration & ownership for 18 months, but we can't sell him on, after that period he will become a free player, but owned by Kia then - so any new club will have to deal with Kia.
The contract will be watertight, and has been vetted by UEFA & PL suits, so all is ok, the issue will be if we wish to turn the loan deal into a permanent deal, and we will then have to pay Kia's Co the requisite amount.
