Hammond surprised doctors with his "remarkable' recovery
Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond is competing for a guest presenting role on BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour.

He is up against broadcaster Kelvin MacKenzie and comedian Andy Hamilton for the one-off appearance on Comic Relief's Red Nose Day, 16 March.

A public phone vote will decide who co-presents alongside Martha Kearney.

Hammond returned to presenting BBC Two's Top Gear earlier this year, four months after a 280mph crash during filming left him fighting for his life.

He was given a hero's welcome on his return to the show, which showed footage of the jet-powered car crash.

Hammond suffered serious brain injuries in the accident at Elvington airfield, near York, in September, but left hospital just five weeks later.

Woman's Hour was presented by a man, Alan Ivimey, when it launched in 1946.

It became Man's Hour, for one day only, on 1 January 2005, with Channel 4 newsreader Jon Snow at the helm.

I think this shows that BBC will not listen to peoples complaints

Yes, but still it's quite disgraceful he's even on the shortlist.

i am not sure he backtracked. to me what he said made it worse. i think he said that and i am paraphrasing. he got the story from a source he trusted and that it wasnt necessarily the facts. but he still refused to apologise

now i dont apologise alot. but if i was told something that was blatantly wrong and i had repeated it. it had been proved to be wrong and when i repeated it offended people i would apologise.

i think its worse what he said than if he had not said anything.

you would think that they would have listened to the complaints and would have quietly dropped him

Just because someone is in England doesn't mean to say they have to tune into any BBC channel

I don't have so much of a problem with him presenting woman's hour.

I had a bigger problem about him presenting football related programmes, because of his history in that specific field.

If he got sacked by the bbc, and he got a job working as a plummer, would you try and hound him out of that too?

Don't get me wrong, the man is a c n t of the highest order, but he has a right to employment. This has to be put into some kind of context, rather than thoughtless bandwagon jumping.

                        Dom

I think i agree with your comments however is he benifiting from the exposure we give him by objecting to him?

also i would imagine that if i did something so blatently wrong that i would find it harder to find employment.
