Well that controversial post has pulled some of the less prolific posters out of the closet, maybe we should have a monthly "Owen Back" post then?

I doubt if he'll ever be the player again that he was with us. His injury means that he would have lost speed and confidence. IMO His only two assets"For whom He did foreknow, He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son"

Bellamy had a bad knee injury and he didn't loose any of his speed. The problem is the foot injury he had IMO.Originally posted by SouthAfricaRed View Post

I won't be surprised if Rafa signs him in 2008 if he can prove his fitness but I doubt that he is option this summer but you never know if he is available for £8m.
Rafa can afford to make a gamble now.Just believe and you never know what will happen.
According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Ive always thought that Rafa didnt fight too hard too keep him when he left for RM, and that he wasnt over enthused at bringing him back, it was more of a Moores and Parry idea.
To have Owen playing in your team makes you too one dimensional IMO if you are to play to his strengths, and injuries aside, thats why i think Rafa wont go for him.If you've lost your faith in love and music the end won't be long

FFS, these Owen threads should be banned. Mickey Owen is NOT and NEVER was a world class striker. Nothing to see here.

the way some people go on about owen being a traitor is ridiculous to my way of thinking - we're not the ****in mafia/gang/terrorist group. just because owen wasn't a badge kissing rabble-rouser, people seem to question his integrity/commitment. he always gave his all for us on the pitch and got us goals to get us out of many a hole. as it turned out he chose poorly in leaving us at the time he did but i'm not too sure how much of that was his fault. i wouldn't begrudge any player the opportunity to have gone to real madrid with the players they had at the time.
i don't understand why he went to newcastle but obviously he was desperate to get out of madrid. maybe the brinksmanship we tend to be involved in when it comes to transfers doesn't sit well with his mentality. after all, he's just a footballer who seems desperate to play football. though i'm uncomfortable with jingoistic nationalism, i think owen's desire to play for england shows character - part of what he probably dreamt of when he was growing up and he's not willing to let it go.
after all his injuries it's hard to know how good he can be again but **** me he wouldn't miss half the sitters kuyt, crouch and bellamy do - and i really like all 3. kissing the badge is all well and good but to label someone a traitor on the basis of doing their job is ludicrous. if most of us had the chance to do a job we loved under what we thought would be really exciting circumstances but involving a move away from home i think a lot of us would go. and i don't think we'd have much time for people who labelled us traitors just because we took a chance. footballers aren't bonded ****in slaves for christ's sake - the best ones are professional in everything they do and if we can't handle a little bit of ambition that doesn't match own hopes for a football team then it probably says more about us then it ever will about players such as michael owen. plus he'd be fairly unlikely to attack his own players with a golf club while still getting important goals.Felching ≠ Gerbilling
