    Post match wash-up/rant thread

Today convinced me we need better strikers.

I've been pondering if better service into our current lot would make them more prolific, perhaps. But Kuyt, Bellamy and Crouch while all good players aren't regular goalscorers. We could do with one.

Not much more to say really. Gutted.

There is no doubt about it. Our strikers and wingers just aren't good enough as a collective force.

I feel sick but we'll be OK

That last gasp goal from Manure has left me feeling pig sick

But we mustn't be too down hearted, IMO we played really well and bossed the game for large periods. That to me demonstrates that we are only missing that one/two genius signings that will unlock those types of games.

Kuyt and Bellend worked hard and made a nuisance of themselves, but never really looked like scoring which is why we need a quality striker. This game also highlighted the need for a top class winger, Pennant did OK when he came on and Speedy did OK, but neither showed the kind of class required to make an impact in a game of todays standard and intensity.

      Encouraging signs

Rafa knows about that problem but he hasn't had the money to sign good enough strikers so far. That will change in the summer.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

          How quickly things change...

It wasn't long ago that people were talking of us catching chelsea and possibly even Utd. After todays robbery, we can probably kiss goodbye to third place and are now looking over our shoulders at bolton who could easily snatch the CL spot from us.
Anyway, that's enough cheer for now - back to the bottle!

Come on ... There's still 10 games to go and we'll beat Arsenal.

Which makes the Voronin signing even more questionable considering his goalscoring record.

Of our attacking players only Garcia can conjure up something a bit different, and he's not everyones cup of tea as we know.

We still have to play Arsenal. 3rd place is well within out grasp. Bolton have a tough run in and are 6pts adrift.

I agree Voronin is a pointless signing. We can and should do much better. That one disappointed me because it is not as if we need to sniff around for bargain basement offers anymore.

The Voronin signing was made before the takeover. Rafa probably didn't knew how much money he would get in the summer. I doubt that he would have signed him after the takeover.

It's good that the strikers works their socks off but that doesn't win you games. You need to score goals to win games.

As I've said before I don't think its all down to the strikers. I think a lot of it is down to tactics and training. We do not look as comfortable or as adventurous in the final third as Utd.

I really think we need to work on our attacking play, especially our off the ball play and runs.

I also think the supply to the strikers is becoming a big problem to.
