Lucky Manc ****s, if I was that Steward at the end I would of smacked Neville so hard he would have died.
Carra probably was a booking though in Europe (or at Old Trafford) it might have been different.

I can't tell whether Momo touched the ball, from the views I've seen of it so far it's impossible to be certain either way. If he did then it was rightfully disallowed.

I am still amazed a penalty wasn't given. Imagine if it had been Ferdinand and Kuyt, what would you say then?

Finnan was holding Giggs - maybe Giggs was holding him too but I didn't see that and clearly the ref didn't either. If Giggs wasn't holding Finnan it was a cast-iron freekick.

    Thankfully you're not a steward.

The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

      Like what exactly?

Bear in mind what our skipper did against Sheff.Utd, gives has taken a free kick to taken advantage of a footballing situation and stopped when he was getting grabbed.

Imagine another team's fans are reading this site, bitter as ****. Lets forgett about it.

They just showed the highlights of the match on Granada Reports. How on earth we never scored is beyond me. That Crouch shot at the end was very close and on second viewing I don't think that Momo touched the ball for our dissallowed goal.

It's made me feel even worse seeing how soft the goal was that we conceded. I never had a good view of it at the match. It looked much worse on the telly.

It was a very disappointing result. The old boozehound himself admitted we were unlucky not to score.

Let us not console ourselves too much with the fact that we dominated the champions elect.

First off, we are Liverpool, and all that entails. The day we don't offer stiff competition at home to United is the day I hand in me cards and start supporting Everton.

Don't console youselves too much that we were unlucky either. Luck has nothing to do with not having the craft, guile and imagination in attack to fashion gilt-edged chances and most importantly, put them away when they present themselves. It's been said in this thread already, our attacking personnel and method are all distinctly second rate and teams know if they're well organised that we can be easily blunted.

To look at the bigger picture, we need to forget that this was United. We need to forget how we owned the ball, forget that Rio done us at OT, forget that it wasn't a free, forget that our goal was disallowed and so on ad infinitum. The bare facts, leaving clouded emotion out of it, are that we had 70% of the ball and not for the first time against a top side (or a non-top side for that matter, think Everton a few weeks back) we singularly failed to press home our advantage. I say good luck and well done to United, they took their chance and in a way deserved to win on that basis alone. Replace Bellamy with Pony Boy and Kuyt with Rooney and ask: would they have ****ed up that first half chance between them like we did today? Would Saha have missed with that Crouch effort?

It's subjective and we'll never know for sure but my guess is: Unlikely.

We've come a certain distance, now it's time to buy top class attacking talent. We desperately need to improve our miserable record against the contenders. Three years into Rafa's reign to be battling for third/fourth is not good enough, neither is the sorry lack of high-tempo fluency and passing accuracy on display from a number of players all day. So let's hope he spends wisely.

Ferguson said that? That says it all then really.

They were lucky today and they know it. As the saying goes though "better to be lucky than good".

                      That's a cracking post, mate.
Except the part about running off to support Everton.

Seriously, we do lack imagination in the final third. We are too static and too easy to read. Not enough flair and gutso.

And I agree, it's about taking care of your chances...and honestly, it is not the first game against the top teams that we have dominated possession. The thing that worries me more is that we fail to convert that possession into clear cut chances, and when we do, we fail to put them away.

This means we lack two things - creativity/flair AND top class finishing.

Rafa will have financial backing now, lets see what he makes of it.

So just the two hardest problems to solve then.

                        I agree with you though.

Thought Momo and Alonso were poor today. Stevie G quiet too. Bellamy and Kuyt worked hard as usual but we just lack a little something up there to put the ball in the net sadly...

Yes. The hardest part remains, and it is also hard to find these players.
Not least because finishing and flair also has a lot to do with confidence.

I think this quote from Rafa just about sums it up:

I would have trouble explaining how we lost that in Spanish; in English I find it almost impossible," he said.
"With Ron Yeats in defence, we could play Arthur Askey in goal."

just got back in, gutted but a result on tuesday would improve things. No excuses today the game showed everything all of us deep inside already knows.
Defensively we're as good as we need to be. Our centre backs and keeper would compete in any team. Our full backs are good to solid but could be improved on though not a priority.
Our width is crap. Speedy nor Pennant would get into any of the top 4. FACT.
Momo is suited to 2 types of games, in a 3 man midfield where he has the defensive role or in games when we won't have much of the ball. He is USELESS in the oppossitions half.
Non of our 4 strikers are capable of leading the line. Bellamy is not clinical enough, kyut and crouch are both limited in their own ways and Fowler is past it.
There will always be a game when we just can't unpick the defense. Garcia is out injured and there is no-one else like him in our team.
These limitations need to be overcome if we are ever to compete for the title under Rafa. But in a cup run, we can still dream...
