The wingers question...

Arsenal had alot of better quality players playing for them at the time, attacking wise.Originally posted by captainfog View PostAresenal aren't winning the league though are they? Chelsea and Manure are and they both have quality wingers.
When Arsenal won the league they did so with Freddie and Pires playing outwide, both cutting in and running into good positions and shooting etc whilst they had the stability of the likes of Viera in the middle. They weren't traditional wide men, in that, they didn't deliver loads of crosses, but they did run with ball, the attribute we are lacking at the moment.
Henry
Bergkamp
Wiltord
Pires
Ljungberg
Vieira
No matter where they ran they where inmtelligent enough to know where they where and there team mates, also the style of play in un matched

If that was directed at me, then I was misinterpreted.Originally posted by Kopite_Colin View PostAbso-bloody-lutely you do. It's glaringly obvious, and IF Rafa's instructing people NOT to do this (as someone on here has suggested) then he's simply wrong. Bodies in the box = greater goal threat
There is no way Rafa would instruct people not to get into the box. thats glaringly obvious.
All I said was, he is not going to commit the core of his midfield into the opposition penno box and leave his defence open when a game is in the balance.Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'
"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

So you're saying you cant get bodies into the box in order to score more goals, while not leaving your defence open?Originally posted by bazza76 View PostIf that was directed at me, then I was misinterpreted.

Funny, cos Man Utd seem to manage it.

Not really, i only disagree (or 'argue') with people who i disagree with. Not everyone, as suggested.Originally posted by bazza76 View Postthats him to a tee, whiel be littling people at the same time.
Maybe you'd find it easier if we all just agreed and nodded along with each other, and those who disagreed were just banned?
You'd have to pay thirty notes for that kind of site though...

I said he wont commit "the core of his midfield".
That is different to saying "bodies" of course Rafa wants bodies in the box a toddler could tell you that.Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:

For me, the problem is that neither momo or alonso have 'arriving in the box' as part of their game.Originally posted by bazza76 View PostI didnt say that.

The solution, is to drop one of them.
ONE centre midfielder MUST offer an attacking threat. Gerrard does it when he plays there. But for that to happen, Momo or Alonso has to miss out.
Ages ago i asked whether people would happily sell Alonso for big money, and bring in a Cahill type of player. Not necessarily TIM CAHILL himself. But that sort.
Cue loads of ridicule, abuse and everything else, from plenty who missed the point entirely.
It wasnt saying Cahill is better than Alonso, not in the slightest. But it was more to do with what TYPE of player was needed. We need ONE Momo/Alonso type (deeper lying) and ONE Cahill type (consistently gets into the box and scores goals).
If you have two of the former, you lack goal threat from midfield. Two of the latter, and your defence is exposed. The key is one of each.
Rafa's dangerously close to falling into the trap of selecting the best players, rather than the players who best suit the system.
I'm not suggesting we throw everyone into the box. But ONE centre midfielder MUST offer a goal threat. Unless Gerrard plays CM, we have none that do.
THAT plays a huge part in the problem, whether people can or choose to see it...or not. And fixing that problem wont suddenly leave us exposed and leaking goals.

I dont belittle people, i post as i would talk. Eg, when you talk, you add tone to it, to express an emotion.Originally posted by bazza76 View PostBut you say nothing about the fact that you be little people though?

It amazes me how many sensitive cry-baby types seem to be on here. 'Belittle' people? Grow up mate, i'm sure they can hack it. And for the record, i get far more ****e thrown at me than most, i dont go around crying about it.
One rule for one...?

I respect other peoples opinions, without having to ridicule them, unless they are obviously a wind up merchant.
Its nothing to do with me what ****e people throw at you, it almost seems as if you are venting something here.
I really dont want to go into too much more of this, as it's a tad bit tiring.

At the end of the day we create more chances than most. While it might be fashionable and a great opportunity for some WUMmery to blame the midfield, the real issue is that we are not taking our chances. Simple as. Better strikers will fix that.
BTW DJS are you so insecure that you need to belittle people? Textbook psychology. The Crushing Machine MKII

your taking the piss right?
If ever there was a manager who doesnt do that, its Rafa. He would be sickened to hear such claims. Rafa has a system and likes his two central midfield players to be diciplined, accept it. he will allow players go forward from deep when it suits, as we see our defenders getting alot more forward since he arrived. Rafa is NOT simply just a defensive manager, i dont see what wrong with him wanting to keep his shape in midfield.
You can make comparrisons with Man U, and fair play to them, they retain the ball well upfield, i think thats largely got to do with them having more talented front men that we do IMO.
We will see more of the crossing you like, when we have more confident wingers, or even mroe tallented wingers. we shoul also be getting in a world class striker IMO, I think people wont have so many reasons to complain next season, when the jury will well and truely be out on Rafa.Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:

I dont recall you jumping to MY defence, when i posted the Alonso/Cahill thread and had people laughing at my opinion....funny that.
Bit hypocritical of you, dont you think?
