Just seen the Sidwell story in an lfc news section.

I find this hard to believe that he's out of contract in the summer as he's quality - what are Reading thinking?!

He'd be a good addition to any squad but I feel we've enough central midfielders here already unless someone's leaving soon!

Reading very similar to Wigan. Sidwell very similar to Bullard, as is their importance to their side.

I'd have taken him before we got Maschareno as backup, but we've got no room for him now.

Not a bad player and he's English which is always a bonus but I don't think anyone would take us seriously next year if we had two bona-fide gingers in the side.

If he leaves Reading I reckon he's the type of player Everton would try and snap up when Arteta ****s them off in the summer.

People are constantly talking about building a team for winning the Premiership title and then come up with these kinds of stories about us sniffing around Sidwell etc.

he's a decent enough player, but with the gap getting bigger all the time between the top four and the rest of the prem i'd be shocked/gutted if we signed him. Good but not good enough to play for a top four team, he wouldn't get a game with our current midfielders. My money would be on Villa(played there before I think?) or Spurs(jol loves buying centre mids ) signing him.

Sidwell is a good player. So is Yossi Benayoun, but I wouldn't want us to sign him either.

So, the consensus on here is that Sidwell is a decent player but he's not what we're looking for at present.

I tend to agree with that, but I find it staggering that Reading are in this situation with their best player - a player that would net them a good few million in the summer if he left!

If memory is correct he was busting a gut to feck off last year with Charlton his likely destination but he ended up signing a short term deal for Personality Coppell for this season.
