      Alex doubt for Liverpool tie

      Sunday, 11 March 2007

PSV Eindhoven coach Ronald Koeman faces an anxious wait after key central defender Alex suffered a suspected torn hamstring in the Dutch club's 0-0 against SC Excelsior on Sunday.

The Brazilian defender, who scored at both ends in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal FC which took PSV into the last eight of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, was injured while attempting a pass just before half-time in the Eredivisie match. Alex will hope the problem will not keep him out of PSV's quarter-final ties against Liverpool FC next month.

Koeman was not optimistic when he assessed the injury the 24-year-old had suffered. "At the moment he wanted to give the pass he felt something tear. We have to wait and see but we assume there is a tear. If that is the case, he will be lucky if he plays another match this season," said Koeman. PSV may already be without striker Arouna Koné for the first leg against Liverpool on 3 April as he has a knee strain.

          Alex blow for PSV

          Alex blow for PSV
By Jeffrey Glorie - Created on 11 Mar 2007

Liverpool's UEFA Champions League quarter-final opponents PSV Eindhoven have been dealt a huge blow with the news that Alex could miss the remainder of the season.

The influential defender, who scored the goal that saw off Arsenal in the competition's last-16, injured his hamstring in PSV's draw with Excelsior on Sunday.

A disappointing stalemate was compounded by the sight of Alex in obvious pain, with the player to undergo a scan on Monday.

PSV boss Ronald Koeman admits the early diagnosis does not look positive, willing to concede that it could be the end of the season for a player who has done as much as any in the club's promising campaign thus far.

"At the moment that he wanted to kick the ball, he felt something tear," said Koeman.

"We have to wait, but we think that there is a crack.

"If that's the case, then we may be happy if he plays another game this season."

            Brilliant news.

Their best defender (Alex) and their best attacker (Kone) are out.

I think we can go to PSV and win...

Let's hope for our sake that's enough for him to miss our 2 games.

I seem to remember about 4-5 seasons ago, comments by Liverpool supporters that Carragher
was not a Liverpool class player and Ged should hurry up get rid of him. Look what a bit of time and
                      patience can do.

gee it must be a bloody serious hammy tear for him to be out for the season!! He must of nearly torn it right through.

Kone will be a big loss aswell, if he misses the Eindhoven game we should win there.
