    Lilian Thuram

At 35, not really the type of player that will keep me on the edge of my seat, but worth a mention.
    118-cap hero linked with Liverpool
    15:16 March, 9, 2007

French World Cup winner Lilian Thuram is being linked with a shock move to Liverpool Football Club.

The 118-cap star will leave current employers Barcelona at the end of the season.

Thuram is up for grabs on a Bosman-style free transfer and Rafa Benitez is reportedly in the hunt for his signature.

It is understood the veteran defender is keen to end his playing days in the Premiership and Liverpool could grant Thuram his wish.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

    * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

At his best Thuram was the best defender in the world. Obviously, those days are gone but ge's still more than useful. Also he would be a great help to Agger & Paletta as they progress. On a Bosman for a season or 2 why not?

He wasn't very impressive in the game on Tuesday was he? Seemed quite scared and out of his depth - surprising for someone of hs quality and experience. Not convinced he could adapt at this stage of his career.

It's a moot point anyway, as this link is clearly a load of bollocks

Our defence is not an area that needs strengthening.

So does centre half as well. We have 3 good CB's but Sami is clearly coming towrds the end of his time. Say Carra or Agger suffered a long term injury, we'd be left with one of those & Sami. Sami can't manage 2 games a week for a long period and next in line is Paletta who's still got a lot of learning to do. I know Momo can play there but another CB is needed. Thuram is a free transfer with still plenty to offer. also rafa likes this sort of buy, an experienced old head a la Pellegrino. OK he didn't work out but that doesn't mean Rafa wouldn't try the same thing again.

Arbeloa is a center back too.

                              Carra, Agger, Sami and Arbeloa.
