I think the important thing about Ronaldo has been that no matter how much he has bitched and moaned he has always got back up and gone at players again. It is that attitude that has eventually seen him succeed, along with the fact that he came when young enough to have several seasons to fully adapt to the PL.

I totally agree with you here. What I find interesting is when this became the case, looking back to the pre-1966 days when the prefered formation was the old WM it can't have been the case.
Good point about Morientes there maybe it was his age, he didn't apply himslef properly or my theory is wrong. However I still do believe if you're talented enough it can be done I'd lean towards the age argument.

You make another interesting point about the pre-1966 argument with Tom Finney, Jimmy Greaves etc. So was Alf Ramsey a bad thing?

Maybe, I think maybe he stayed on in the England job too long, but he was a great innovator and from what I have seen played good football. For what ever reason he never seemed to be able to reproduce the same quality of team post the 1970 world cup. People seemed to take the failings of his system after that time as an inditement of his philosophy, I suspect he just wasn't as inspired as he was before, 10 years in the England job and with the pressure of having to live up to the 1966 triumph it must have been very hard to keep up the standard.

He also didn't have home advantage after 1966.
          .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

He could be available on the "cheap".

Man Utd, Spurs can sign Nani for chump change
              tribalfooball.com - March 28, 2007

Manchester United could snap up Sporting Lisbon star Nani for chump change if a Portuguese ruling falls in the players union's favour.

Sporting have slapped a £15M price-tag on the winger, who apart from United, is also being chased by Tottenham and Inter Milan.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, an imminent verdict in Portugal might see all Liga players' asking prices slashed, as they could be free to buy themselves out of their contracts with a fee based on their current salary. That would mean United being able to sign Nani for less than £2 million.

Portuguese clubs have already entered a 'pact' to not take advantage should the ruling fall in the players' favour, however it would still leave Liga clubs exposed to foreign raiders. United may still choose to negotiate a realistic fee with Sporting, however, as they enjoy a close relationship with the Lisbon giants.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

But despite that lack the team was very good in 1970 and acknowledged as such by countries such as Brazil.

He's not what we are after though. We need a tricky, fast winger. EG: Quaresma, Ribery. Nani is a more direct player....sort of like Van Persie. But no where near that sort of quality yet.

But for £2m he would be a quality buy, he has a ****load of talent.

Players like Quaresma and Simao for example.
