I remember hearing him being called Digger on the Kop and in some Freudian slip assumed people were calling him a n****r (censored that meself), not being a fan of Dallas I had no idea. At the time I thought it was a bit bizarre that so many fans would openly abuse him.

I thought the very same thing when I first heard him being called Digger. I thought the chap was a racist with a heavy cold.

I thought he was named Digger after Cliff Barnes father in Dallas.

John Barnes always seems to be remembered more for his England career for some strange reason, "that" maracana goal and that he never really done the business for England. Nothing to do with the fact that the dozy ****s who were national mangers at the time didnt know how to get the best out of him like.

His peak years with us he was an outstanding player and a joy to watch, and rightly deserves his place in my all time LFC 11.
