Like I've said on here before, Redknapp was all style and no substance as a player and he's the same as a pundit, just without the style.

Redknapp was not a great player. He was decent and visibly improved playing with Ince and did a reasonable job - nothing more.

If he'd have had more bite he would have been top class, but he couldn't tackle and dig in when needed.

Cos he was soft as fresh ****, shirked tackles and was easily bundled off the ball, ran like a baby when tackled and wasn't far off being labelled a sick-note.

Exactly the problem - he improved in this department when playing with Ince, but it was probably too little too late

A bit harsher than how I would have worded it, but that's basically right.

I think playing him instead of Michael Thomas probably cost us the 1996 Cup Final against the scum - it wasn't the suits that were to blame

Can't agree....I think he is quite reasonable overall today.....his assesment of LFC's champions league chances after today's matches was . if anything. too positive!

Redknapp as a player was quality at what he was, a playmaker. Not many midfields work without a bit of bite and that was surely the case with us then. He just needed the ideal partner.

As a pundit he is a bit pro Chelsea due to being Lampards cousin, but he is also very much pro LFC. Talking about Gerrard is nothing new, as he is the best CM in the country you would expect pundits to debate Rafas reasons why, and as fans of football I guess all the Sky team would want to see him in the centre.

I want Gerrard in the centre but see Rafas reasoning why, but Im not paid to pick faults and Redknapp and co. are.

At last a good assessment of Jamie both as a player and a pundit. Jamie was a pretty good player, a great passer of the ball with a decent shot on him. He wasn't the best tackler ever, but anyone who says he's soft or a shirker is talking bollox, he was nothing of the sort. You don't play for either Kenny or souness if you bottle out in midfield.

As a pundit, he's very much pro LFC. He also backs Lampard as well which as he's his cousin is fair enough in my book. Overall I think he's a pretty good pundit.

If you ask me, in terms of those attributes you describe above, Redknapp wasn't fit to lace someone like Jan Molby's boot, and the latter pretty much didn't move from his square metre patch in the centre of the pitch.

at the "pretty good pundit" bit. You're joking right?

I didn't say Redknapp was a better player than Molby, I never mentioned the big Dane. Football is all about opinions and Jamie was a very good player in my view.

As for being a good pundit or not, again its a personal view, but i think he is. People on here don't like him because he's not creaming himself over the reds every minute. They expect any ex red to constantly talk us up & have a go at everybody else , but thats plain bollox.

I think you're doing a lot of reds a disservice there - I dont think we're critical of him because he's not praising us to the hilt, it's because he is poor as an analyst. He is not particularly perceptive, he talks in platitudes and just seems to toe the media line, doesnt seem to have an original thought and often goes off at a tangent, even the way he speaks is whiny and annoying. And this is before I mention how he jizzes over Lampard and is disrespectful towards Rafa.

As for Molby, the comparison to him is indicative. You mentioned attributes Redknapp had, I compared him to a recent player of ours who in my view had similar attributes, was not very mobile yet IMO was a superior player to Redknapp. So as very good as Redknapp was, was he good enough for us?

I was just watching some of the old videos of LFC, and Redknapp was one of the best passer of the ball. I was thinking the other day that he was our Xabi Alonso in the late 90s, long range passes, short range, pass to feet, hit a good shot of the ball, and great freekick taker. Granted his tackling is ****e, but he always gave more passion then alot of other ex- and present LFC footballers.

He wasn't over-rated, he was just unlucky with injuries, and like Rob Jones etc, he did not have the chance to fulfill to bring his talent to an even higher stage.
Agreed 100% mate. ****ing spot on.

To add more controversy, I don't dislike Andy Gray either. I don't think he's anti Liverpool how loads of people suggest on here!

it was one of the few things that Gray has ever said that I agree with.
