He was great for us. Great!

When replying i noticed someone saying he was overrated... simply not true, we were a different outfit without him at the time.

As for punditry, well i don't normally suffer it. Easy not to listen. Easy.

Well I for one agree with Chrono. Redknapp wrote about the whole Gerrard playing on the right thing in the Mail on Friday, and it was the first thing he mentioned yesterday, and it wasn't even prompted by the question. It's getting ridiculous - to the point when Rafa was asked about Redknapp's comments in his pre-match press conference. It seems to me that Redknapp is doing more than anyone else in the media to propagate this impression that Gerrard is or should be unhappy. I'm sorry, but a former Liverpool player, a captain no less, should not be trying to unsettle our current captain whether deliberately or not, or even if he realises it or not.

I gues we'll just have toagree to disagree on this one mate.
Redknapp is now employed by SKy not LFC. He's not on Sky to promote LFC, he's there to give his view on the match in question. all Redknapp said was that continually playing SG on the right will lead to him becoming unhappy at the club, which in my view is fair comment.

To say Redknapp is unsettling Gerrard is nonsense mate. Neither SG nor Rafa will lose any sleep over Jamie's or any other pundits opinion. You can argue Jamie's not a good pundit if you like, thats a mtter of opinion. But to suggest he shouldnt say anything ante LFC is plain stupid. As a club LFC have far more ex players in the media than any other club. They aren't there to play the LFC line, and rightly so.

I understand what you're saying and dont particularly disagree. I accept he is not there to toe the LFC line, but why is he continually going on about Gerrard being unhappy on the right? He is mentioning it all the time. He wrote an article about it on Friday, it was the first thing he mentioned on Saturday, and he wasn't even asked about it, I don't remember ever watching him working on a Liverpool game this season where he hasn't mentioned it. Rafa was even asked about those comments on Friday, and this is where it gets ridiculous - if a media person is starting to ask Rafa about Redknapp's comments it shows they are beginning to spread through the media and this is where they snowball and could start to become unsettling. Redknapp is being irresponsible and he is being a poor pundit as well. He needs to get off his soap box, and broaden his repettoire a little, and find something a bit more original to say than "Stevie is unhappy".

He never really had mine. A weak player who's captaincy was indicative of the lack of quality we had in the side.

Putting aside Redknapps 'expert' and 'interesting' views on anything and everything we can all surely agree on one thing - he was an average central midfielder not in the same class as a Souey, StevieG, Stevie Mac, Jan and Gary Mac - can we agree on this?

Me either i think they are both ok, now Graham Sharp hes a prick.

I like Jamie, always have, good player and professional for LFC, he is entitled to air his views as its his job, I even met him once and he was a top bloke.

People slag off Lawrenson too because he doesnt have red tinted glasses, but i can put up with him too, pundits are there to make people talk thats the point.

I definitely concur with that, even if others on here won't. I dont think Redknapp was as good as any of the players you mention there. As soon as Stevie G burst on the scene Redknapp became more marginalised, even being put on the wing by Houllier, despite being club captain. Says it all for me really. A very toothless player, certainly compared to those you mention

fact remains, Redknapp thinks like a footballer, not a manager, and so wont understand alot of what IMO is the most technical manager in the world is doing, same goes for Andy Gray.
I remember them going on about Gerrard against Barca not playing in the middle etc, and it turned out to be a master stroke.
I do think Redknapps consistant comments about Stevie dont help things, infact even Rafa has quoted Redknapp in his intervies when talking about Gerrard on the right.
Unless Redknapp has been told, and even if he has been tod that Gerrard isnt happy playing there, he should keep his mouth shut and let Stevie do his own talking.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

Xabi is a better midfielder too

I'll give you 3 out of those 5. But not Gary Mac. And McManaman was a completely different type of player.
