He is struggling a bit a Mo-ment; however, he is an important player for us and will come good again.

Seriously, though. People forget how much Momo's control and awareness seemed to have improved at the start of the season, and before his injury. I can remember in the Community Shield how well he used the ball when he had won it. A couple of poor footballing performances and we're trying to find a replacement.

The age of the poor lad we can give him another season before we decide whether he'll ever be able to pass a ball or not

People are too quick to write players off. Every game they have to be world beaters, they can't have a dip in form, they have to be technically perfect and work really hard, they have to adjust within weeks to a new club, a new country...

It's really starting to piss me off.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

The lad's in his early 20s and up until his disastrous move to West Ham he was already a mainstay in a national side that is never outside the world's best 2 or 3. He played every minute of Argentina's world cup last year and if he can regain his form of not to long ago this guy is one of the best holdingmidfielders in the world, right up there with Makelele. In 10 years we could be talking about him being Benitez's greatest ever signing. Tevez is slowly beginning to do the same. People in this country are often suspicious (sometimes with good reason) of any player who comes to this country from a place with a warmer climate to our own and who has a long(ish) name. For me he was the best player on the pitch on Saturday by a mile and already seems to know how to keep Benitez happy ie do as you are ****in' told. This guy could just be the difference in us winning you know what for the sixth time!!

Agree totally. I would love to see Tevez here, always have done. In a better side he would have settled quicker and in our team would be world class....IMO anyway.

I'm sure Rafa will snap Masher up on a long term contract in the summer, however, I see no reason why that means Momo must go. We need Momo, just not in all the games. He will be an excellent squad player and will be needed for the more bruising encounters.

I also agree with those who say he is our Didi replacement, however, I would also say he is better than Didi. Masher is a much better passer of the ball and technically he is much better. Masher is the 'next level' of Didi......a fearsome prospect

It obviously is too early to say, but I think DJS may well be right. Mascherano does indeed look like the Hamann replacement we've been craving.

Agree though, that from what I've seen of him, playing for us, playing for the best national side in the world and playing in Brazil, he would appear to be absolute quality, and still young.

                      Seen all this before though....

Liverpool boss Benitez delighted with Mascherano: He's a monster
                        tribalfooball.com - April 02, 2007

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is delighted his determination to land Javier Mascherano from West Ham is being repaid.

"Of all the youngsters to have come through in recent years, Mascherano is the one who has impressed me most," he said. "He's a monster of a player and destined for great things and when I heard there was a chance of signing him the other month, it was too good to miss.

"He might not have played many games for West Ham, but just training with them had its benefits. Each session taught him more about the Premiership, about its players, its pace and physical aspects.

"He certainly feels he knows a lot more about English football now, and he has a real desire to remain involved at this level. He wanted to come here and show people he was good enough to play in the Premiership and do well and the evidence is there for all to see.

"In the 4-1 win against Arsenal on Saturday, just as in his other games for us, you could see he's a really good player. We knew when we signed Mascherano that we needed another holding midfielder, just in case Xabi was not able to fill in.

"In the event, I played Xabi and Javier alongside each other against Arsenal and it gave freedom to the wingers and to Steven Gerrard.

"It proved a good option but whatever formation we go for, I know one thing. Mascherano is a winner with a strong mentality.

"He has 22 caps for Argentina already and that tells you everything about his ability and temperament. Just think how many English players have that many caps at his age, and you are talking about a fantastic national team in Argentina.

"He has settled down well and shown he has real character. There are so many qualities to his play, particularly the way he's always in the right position and manages to keep possession.

"The only problem has been the difference between being fit from training and being match-sharp from playing. He hasn't had a lot of games, but he will get by until the end of the season.

"Not 100 per cent, maybe, but if we get to the Champions League final again, that might just put an extra spring back in his step."
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Anyone that plays for his national team before his first team debut for his club is CLASS by default. Very, very impressive - a quality acquisition by Rafa.
