    Did Roy Evans reject Zidane?

I'm pretty sure I recall that we rejected the chance to sign Zidane whilst at Bordeaux for £3m as uncle Roy thought him too expensive? Along with Michael Laudrup, this is surely one of our biggest gaffs.

Can anyone confirm this, or was it a nightmare I had?

I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."

I'm sure I read somewhere that Evans wanted to sign him and Thuram but the board wouldn't back him.

Again I may have dreamt/made it up!

        Not more dreams, Kenneth.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Zidane would have been the new Cheyrou if we had signed him.

I've got a mate who is a Spurs season ticket holder and he never shuts up about Gerry Francis refusing the option to sign Zidane because he was "too wooden".

Any time we talk about football my mate brings it up, followed by a sigh and a shake of the head. Talk to any Spurs fan about it, they're all still very bitter about it.

            "Too wooden"! For ****s sake...

wasn't it in fowlers book - something about how evans had a list of players he felt needed to win the league but the board didn't back him, there was something like thuram, desailly, gary mac and a strker I can't remember now - evans felt he had enough young talent and needed to strenghten with experience - i'm sure it was fowlers book

there were loads of rumours flying about during Ged's time that ZZ was going to sign. Every man and his dog had spotted them on the Wirral/Manchester airport/down the local.
Dunno if there was every any substance to the stories, but would have been a great one if it was true.

Ah the old days of BB and Teamtalk circa 1998....somebody always saw Ronaldo/Zidane/anyone else at an airport/hotel/Melwood.

At least it gave us a laugh.

ZZ said a few years abck that he would never play in the EPL because he would not be able to control the game the way he could in Spain or Italy.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

                        * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

We did have a chance to sign him when he was at Bordeaux - I think that was in Thommo's book, but I'm not 100% sure.

I think it all fell through when Martin O'Neill gazumped him for that property he had his heart set on.

I think we had a chance to sign him after he had a crap year in Italy but we missed the chance when we missed out on the CL after losing five games in a row without scoring a goal.

He stayed in Italy and a year later Real signed him for a World record fee after he had a fantastic season for Juve.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.
